Pope strongly defends Priestly Celibacy and Consecrated Virginity

Family is the vocation that God wrote in the nature of man and woman, but there is another vocation, complementary to that of matrimony: the calling to celibacy and to virginity for the Kingdom of Heaven. It is the vocation that Jesus himself lived. How to recognize it? How to follow it?
...

I answer you with two essential elements on how to recognize this vocation to the priesthood or to consecrated life: praying and walking in the Church. These two things go together, they are intertwined. At the source of every vocation to the consecrated life there always is a strong experience of God, an experience that is not forgotten, that is remembered all through life! It is the one that Francis had. And we cannot estimate or program it. God always surprises us! It is God who calls; but it is important to establish a daily relationship with Him, to listen to him in silence before the Tabernacle and in the intimacy of our own selves, to talk to him, to stay close to the Sacraments. Having this familiar relationship with the Lord is as it were to have open the window of our life, so that He may make his voice heard, what he wants from us.
...

I want to say one thing to you strongly, especially today: virginity for the Kingdom of God is not a "no", it is a "yes"! True, it includes renunciation to a marital bond and to one's own family, but at its foundation there is the "yes", as a response to the total "yes" of Christ for us, and this "yes" makes [us] fertile.

Nihil Obstat

I have to admit that the rumours today had ever so slightly rustled my jimmies. What actually came out of today was rather excellent,

I agree.  I breathed a sigh of relief when I read the article.

but wait, all those claiming Francis is a heratic and the church is going to die can't explain this away as they can still justifiy saying the church is dying.  You know what individual on here I am referring to.

How about you be even more passive aggressive.

I am glad that Pope Francis said what he did, and rejoice that the divisive rumors were wrong.   I also am very glad that he had a good pilgrimage to Assisi for his feast day, and that hopefully everyone prayed for wisdom for him today.

I don't see any good to be gained by jumping to any conclusions about what Pope Francis will or will not do... but if I were a little devil I would do anything I could to get the Church, individuals in the Church--and we as PhatPhamily!-- polarized about what COULD /MIGHT happen...

I would especially be alert to using rumors, innuendos and playing up fears, and for playing us against each other.  And I for one don't want to be involved with their little campaign.   Satan, GET OUT!!!!

I want us to try to focus on the love we have for God and for Church.... and to be as respectful as we can even if we disagree about stuff.

But that is just me....

Praying for all of you and for all of the Church.

I learn it from the anarchists.

Perhaps you should ask the State to assault people you disagree with. :bounce:

Funny though, I thought we were talking about the Pope. Did I come into the wrong thread?

yes, because if one is not for anarchy, then it must mean they are for state sponsored assaulted.  You should run for office, you do a good job of painting so many with a broad brush so its easier to vilify them.

in the wrong thread?   why would you think that?  don't you know every thread at phatmass turns into a "state is evil thread".

Excellent, because the State is evil. :bounce:

you've got great easy talking points.  You should run for office and then fix the state.  Or just stay online and complain.  Both are equally constructive.

Why would I want to join an evil group of sociopaths? :bounce:
