Chicago Restaurant Offers "ghost" Communion Burger...

I respectfully disagree as I do believe that it is a conscious action meant to offend. But I do agree that it is a shock tactic to increase sales. :)

So I choose not to be offended- but to feel compassion that this is the way they need to seek attention. It's really sad.

Its mockery even if its unconsecrated. Like the Doritos commercial that replaced the wine with Pepsi max and the bread with a dorito chip. Clearly neither could be consecrated, but it was also clearly a mockery.

Yes, there are always going to be people who make fun of religious beliefs. I just happen to find it more sad than shocking and I pray that God will one day give them the gift of faith.

I was quite obnoxious to Christians when I was a young agnostic. If someone was even the slightest bit unsure of how to defend their faith, I would leap on them with 'logic and reason' and make fun of their using the Bible as an authority. Looking back now, I know that my actions were based on ignorance and fear. For some reason, God choose to bring me to Jesus despite my previous behavior. Like St Paul, some of us take awhile to 'see the light'. I can't judge others for their actions without remembering my own.

Are they insensitive? Yes. Are they offensive? Yes. But we won't convert hearts without love and understanding - and lots of prayer for those who offer us offence. That doesn't mean we can't vote with our feet - don't buy the records, don't eat the burgers.

Just saying .... :)

As I look upon that burger, the only other thought which comes to my mind is this: Who thought this would taste good? Ghost chilli aioli? With a wine reduction sauce? And white cheddar cheese? Nope. I don't think those flavors would go together very well at all. Not to mention, communion hosts are actually pretty gross to just eat.

It'll be off the menu before long, I think, if only because it's probably not terribly tasty.

If I find a cross on my sandwich bread, is it immoral for me to eat it?  I mean, I'd be stupid to not sell it on ebay, but immoral, really?  I fail to see why anybody would be worked over this.

hot cross buns are only sold around easter in australia. :)

The burger is named after the Swedish heavy metal band Ghost (known as Ghost B.C. in the US). The lead singer dresses up as a cardinal with a skeleton mask & the band members wear hooded robes. Yeah, the burger is meant to be sacrilegious. :meh: Once again, not seeing a Jewish pork sandwich or an offensive Islamic burger(not that I'd want to!)...it's easier to offend the Christians.

The muslims would riot. Unsure what the Jews would do, perhaps pay for someone to bash you, or pay for someone to stalk you and do weird stuff without breaking the law till your a paranoid psychotic. We turn the other cheek because Jesus said so, which is very good, but we still can discuss it and say what we think of it. I think it may be rude, arrogant, insensitive and a bad mistake in need of humble rebuke. The burger and the metal artist it is modelled on, perhaps more so the metal artist because they are playing follow the leader, or perhaps not perhaps there catholic haters and this metal artist called ghost was just an excuse for them to be nasty.

Jesus iz LORD.

Then I believe we agree. I don't think we need to rise up and go to war over this, just not buying it would be enough to stop it. Hopefully it would, and the bad taste in both senses of the word. But still its pretty clear to me this was completely intentional. Putting a unconsecrated communion wafer on goat meat with red wine makes it pretty clear this was thought out and a form of mockery. The burger is is what it is and that is blasphemy. Done for shock value and free advertisement but still a symbolic mockery of what is sacred.

I gave you props for the information, i hadn't looked at the whole thing yet, and it does sound like an intentional mockery as i had thought from other posts and the original post. But i think to help nunsense also we need to understand they don't understand that this is sacred to us, they know we say that it is sacred perhaps or perhaps not, but also perhaps they don't understand fully why the host and communion is sacred to us, though it may be some level of blasphemy, but to me more so a blasphemy is when a priest that fully understands the liturgy of the holy mass and it's sacredness and decides everyone should sing happy birthday for an elderly parishioner halfway through holy mass is far more blasphemous then an ignoramus whom is possibly just an ignoramus whether intentional or not. Don't give the the pleasure of ruffling you feathers to much to the point of blind madness and anger, i have been there many times but phatmass and jesus and others good and bad are helping me understand better to not seeth with anger over things, not saying anyone here is over this though but if anyone is then i hope the anger looses it's grip. :)   O.T. " Don't let the sun set on your anger."

In the "olden days", they may have gotten a bunch of visits from city inspectors and maybe shut down for "code violatiuons".

Or, depending on the neighborhood and who may have been offended, they may have gotten a visit from Frankie, Nick, and Angelo.....

Wouldn't edit again, here is the editited version.

You know what i said to the crime boss and his henchmen? I said this(hypotheticaly, i haven't actually tried it yet.) 'What did santa claus say to the gangster when the gangster asked him "Howzit goin"? Santa claus answered the gangster "Still sleigh'n' em!" Seriously though the mafia where only half catholic, you can't intentionally kill, bash or maime someone and say before you do it " i'll just take it to confession it will be ok." You can do that for any sin, lying or breaking a commandment but am unsure if you receive a full absolution in the grand scheme of things, just partial, unless there's some serious sorrow and remorse, or untill there is some serious sorrow and remorse for the deliberated sin,lie or breaking of a commandment. In my books anyway. As far as i'm aware what i have just said is not church doctrine, nore biblical doctrine and should be taken as my personal opinion, which may be way wrong even heretical, please tell me if it is heretical so i can not say it again or just a bit off, or perhaps interesting or correct.

P.s. St Nicholas was excommunicated for punching out a heretic cardinal whom no one thought was a heretic except jolly old st nic, and the cardinal was later found to be a heretic, and then st nicholas was re instated. If any of you didn't already know.

wouldn't edit again. 3rd times a charm. So please don't delete me dust or ban me. Hopefully this 3rd post in succession is not a regular.

<edit> . I think there are some gangsters in australia that have there children baptised, get married in a church and have there funerals in a church, and say they believe in God. Perhaps when Jesus says " be baptised and believe and you will be saved," will get them through what i see as a troubled lifestyle choice, birth rite or a series of un fortunate circumstances.
