Lilllabettt
Right. States can allow some plans in the exchanges to cover abortions, although they are required by law to have at least one plan that doesn't cover abortion. You're argument is ridiculous. I think your Pope recently made statements about Catholics, like yourself, being obsessed with abortion to the exclusion of ever other issue. But, of course, you only listen to what the Pope says if he bolsters the right-wing of the Republican party. I think this highlights why many people were concerned with the Pope's statements. Being critical of the way Obamacare treats the abortion issue is a mainstream Catholic concern. The USCCB has been very vocal about it. The Little Sisters of the Poor are suing over it. There are fewer people more radically committed to social justice than they. But since the Pope's words were published, they have offered an easy way to mock and dismiss such concerns as right wing/Republican obsessions. Maybe Catholics will feel compelled to "shut up" about it. Not good at all.
Lilllabettt
You of all people know better than to say that to me. My God, man, it's like waving an ice cream sandwich in front of Oprah. excuse me, but she likes mac n' cheese. amateur.

KoC, however, is arguing that shutting down the government, and all the suffering that entails, is justified because the supposed reason for the shut down is because Republicans want to refund the ACA. The ACA doesn't mandate funding for abortion. KoC wants WIC not to be funded and a lot of bread-earners not to be able to support their famlies because Oregon might set up an exchange where people will be able to select an insurance plan that covers abortion. That seems to be what Pope Francis was talking about. Since this stunt won't actually defend Obamacare. It bringing on suffering to the poor for a vapid stunt. Which intellectually dishonest like KoC try to disguise as being some sort of stand for the unborn. Edited October 5, 2013 by Hasan

Winchester
The people running this theatrical production decided that would be shut down. And that would be a bipartisan effort. The prominent itens shut down are shut down in order to get us to support the State.

It never states this plan can not be the most expensive or least covered or so on. Its more than likely in states with pro abortion democrats they will use this to further push tax payer funded abortions(obamacare is a tax, the supreme court ruled as such no matter what Obama tries to tell you) by either making the most expensive plans not cover abortions or the plans with the least coverage or a combination of both. To deny this will happen is to be mentally blind to politics or to be so in love with one part you can't see anything they do as wrong.
havok579257
this is an honest question to all who support shutting down the government in hopes of defunding obamacare... do you actually think this will work? Obama has done only done 2 things so far in his entire presidency. Kill Bin Laden and pass obamacare. His entire legacy rides on obamacare. I think its delusional to actually think he will allow it to be defunded. Even if the senate passes defunding it, he will veto it and there is no way you are going to override his veto. The is not mathematically enough votes to do it. So what is the point of this shutdown? Do you honestly think there is even a remote chance of him defunding obamacare. He would let the country burn before he defunds his only economic achievement so far and the thing his legacy will be built on.

cmaD2006
People ... while you are debating back and forth, regardless of what your political views are please remember those directly affected by this. I personally know a lot of people that come last friday will not be paid AT ALL until this is resolved, and I know a whole lot more are waiting for the gauntlet to fall (a major fortune 500 company announced that a group of their employees are being furloughed, and that means other fortune 500 companies on govt contracts can follow suit). So feel free to bicker and rant back and forth. Just as long as you ARE praying for those negatively affected by the shutdown then great. But if all you do is the arguing back and forth and don't remember those suffering then, well God will keep it in mind.
