4588686
The delaying of the PPACA is a laughingstock. They are merely going to push for the same thing as soon as we have this budget fight next year, and try to delay it indefinitely. If the Republicans are willing trade the delay of the PPACA for a four-year budget plan or something, then that would be fair. Otherwise it is merely a heads I win, tails you lose offer. Yeah. That would be how a genuinely informed and intellectually honest person would assess the situation. Sadly KoC fails in one of those. Which I couldn't say. So really, what makes you think he will ever pass a 4 year budget plan when he has yet to pass a single year budget even when he had all of the power? BG45
Perhaps she did mean that, but teachers in the SF Bay Area have had incomes in excess of $100,000 a year for a long time. My aunt made about $80,000 a year, but she lived in a smaller rural area. That amazes me, as someone who has never seen a K-12 teacher make more than $50,000 a year and know a good half dozen in as many different states. I should move to Cali and go into teaching kids, apparently the money is great. This makes me sick. The more I inform myself of this shutdown the more it seriously pisses me off. Actually, it enrages me. Ditto... On that note. Enough Republicans and Democrats in the House now agree that they would pass the budget and end the shut down. WOULD, but for the fact House Speaker John Boehner refuses to allow a vote .thus far

He refuses to allow votes on tons of things. If Democrats do this and everyone is ok with it, can you really blame republicans for doing the same thing? BG45
I can when the government is shut down. Boehner and Reid have both been vote blocking idiots during the course of this, that's entirely true. Personally, I hold them both in disdain. Boehner comes off as a wannabe supervillain by further delaying a vote that would restore funding, while Reid came off as one yesterday when he insulted a CNN reporter's intelligence and rhetorically asked why he should care about a child dying of cancer due to the shutdown, when there are others suffering. KnightofChrist
Whatever happened to the catholic battle cry "We will not comply"? What ever happened to Catholics standing against this unjust law? The House is standing against a unjust law that will abuse the rights of the Church and help murder babies. The Senate and the President could have backed down and at least, at least agreed to delay the law by one year just like Corporations received but they refused. This shutdown is due to a lack of leadership from the President and refusal of both the President and the Senate to compromise with the House. We can fix that and fight the mandate in the future. Capitulation only leads to defeat. No group is being mass murdered over the shutdown, no ones religious and individual rights will be attacked by the shutdown. If the law is not fought tooth and nail then it will cause much suffering, much more than this slowdown not actual shutdown of some parts of the government. I don't want this law funded with my taxes, I don't want my taxes to go to fund this unjust law. It is both sad and sick that Catholics are so quick to fold faster than Superman on laundry day and allow this unjust law to be funded.

Public school teachers are paid very well, and even private school teachers like myself can do well. I was up for a position teaching religion at a Catholic high school in San Jose, and the starting pay was $50,000 a year, and the pay could be higher based upon the amount of experience you have. There are TONS of other horrible things people have to go through for this crap. And even if the HHS mandate goes through, we just say no. Sorry, not happening. I dont WANT it to happen, but in the event that it does we can stand up for our faith! I dont like the line of thinking "Its ok If we make people suffer now to prevent them from suffering later." How about we DONT make them suffer when we dont need to. This is a law already and nothing we are doing with the budget will change that. Also, I dont like that you say its "sad and sick" that I, as a Catholic, want this to end. What are you implying? That you think I have less conviction? If you think its Christian to allow millions of people to go without insurance or to suffer through a government shut down then I throw up my hands! It is our duty as Christians to care for the poor and the lowest of the low, the helpless, and the lost.

It is not, we've gone through 17 'shutdowns' in the past 30 years or so and the sky did not fall, despite the media's fear mongering. Much of the media has a incestuous relationship with the President and the Democrat Party. If you were to pay close attention you can see that Democrat talking points are repeated far more and in vast amounts in comparison to Republican talking points by the media. They are working together to get people like you to join them in supporting funding for this unjust law. For you and others here it seems to be working. I think that is very sad. Whatever the suffering that is actually being caused by this 'shutdown' is not comparable and does not justify funding this unjust law, what will violate our rights and the rights of the unborn. I doubt we will agree. But I do hope and pray that at some point you will take a stand. Now I think is the best time, because it doesn't matter when the stand is made, the Democrats will fight us tooth and nail and they will not buckle at the knees at anytime. They are going to make the same arguments then as they are now, and they will likely not compromise then as now and help cause another shutdown. BG45
Hopefully unrelated, but... CNN's Breaking News Banner: Police are responding to reports of an active shooter situation on Capitol Hill. Al Jazeera America's: US Capitol Police: Capitol in lockdown after reports of gunshots and injured Capitol police officer. Edit: CNN confirms, details sparse. (CNN) – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on Thursday that one person was injured in a shooting on Capitol Hill, CNN's Dana Bash reports. Police are reacting to reports of shots fired on Capitol Hill in Washington. An order was given over the Capitol speaker system to shelter in place because of an active shooter situation. There were reports of multiple gunshots near the Senate Hart Office Building, and people were seen running. Capitol Police sent out the following advisory to staffers: "SHELTER IN PLACE. Gunshots have been reported on Capitol Hill requiring all occupants in all House Office Buildings to shelter in place. Close, lock and stay away from external doors and windows. Take annunciators, Go Kits and escape hoods; and move to the innermost part of the office away from external doors or windows. If you are not in your office, take shelter in the nearest office, check in with your OEC and wait for USCP to clear the incident. No one will be permitted to enter or exit the building until directed by USCP. All staff should monitor the situation. Further information will be provided as it becomes available." The House and Senate went into recess after the shooting.
