Apotheoun
My time with the Roman Catholic Church bears no resemblance to this man's experience. The parish I frequent encourages us to love our neighbors and be better human beings. It does not shirk from the reality of our brokenness. You are lucky then, because sin is rarely if ever mentioned in the parishes I have attended in the 25 years that I have been Catholic. In fact, a priest that used to serve in the parish 10 minutes from my house did not believe in sin at all, which is why he changed the prayer at Mass during the preparation of the gifts to the following: "Lord wash away my negativity, and cleanse me of my self-centeredness." Hearing this over and over for many months, I wrongly assumed that these were his code words for "inequity" and "sin," but in a homily for the feast of Christ the King he said that, "Jesus embraced his negativity, while having a strong sense of His own importance." I guess that is what you get when you have a priest who knows more about modern psychology than Catholic theology.
