Breaking Bad

I watched all of season one, episode 1 and then I watched some episodes sporadically until I discovered a two-hour video on YouTube encapsulating all of the key events. That video saved me hours and hours deprived me of an opportunity to experience real, transcendent art

Every episode of Breaking Bad is on Netflix, except the last season. Pay the $8 and finish it in a month. The only episode you should skip is the fly episode.

Not in a million years would I have watched something that was described as being about a chemistry teacher who turns to cooking meth and selling it but after reading some of the posts on here, I went and watched every single episode except the last 8 of season five (though I have seen the youtube spoilers and the last two episodes are on AMC). I loved the show and found so much in it. The moral disintegration of WW was fascinating and the way everyone else responded too. Drug dealers always seem two dimensional in TV cop shows, but this was something completely different.

Thanks for starting this thread dUSt. I will watch the last of season five (even though I know the ending already) when it is available online.

Just finished season 1, I am officially a Breaking Bad fanboy. The premise of the show is perfect...a man forced to confront his mediocre life because he is about to die. The guy who plays Walter White is amazing in his performance.

I'm still on season four of Flashpoint. I plan to finish this season before I start watching Breaking Bad. I'm also thinking of watching The Walking Dead, too.

My favorite television series is Lost, hands-down. I don't care if Breaking Bad is objectively better or not, Lost has a special place in my heart.

It's a well written show. Even with the violent episodes, they fully portray character development throughout the series. Especially Walt, Jesse, Hank, and Skylar. They always have options on the path to take given the circumstances.

Yeah I'm curious to see what becomes of Skylar and Walt Jr. ...I can't imagine them getting involved in the family business. In the first episode when they first introduce Hank he seemed like a real jerk, but over season 1 I've come to like him somewhat...he is a jerk, but he seems like a good guy underneath it.

Though the"Fly" episode is denigrated, it illustrates Walts personality and how he approaches issues.

Not sure why it's denigrated. Just saw it, probably one of the most important eps of the series I've seen so far. Takes a step back from the soap opera and gets back to the real theme of the show, Walt's mortality and the human need to piece together some story of their life to make some sense of it.

The ep also sneaks in another theme of the meaninglessness of work. The ep opens with Walt and Jesse complaining and trudging through having to clean the lab, while the workers up stairs file in with their punch cards. Why is Walt still cooking meth? For the same reason the people upstairs work in a laundry warehouse...who knows?

Actually just wait until you get to the end of the series, they tell you the true reason why he still cooks.

Wait, popular opinion to decide what is better? Isn't that kind of like listening to the pop music scene when they said Britney Spears had talent?

Britney Spears had a lot of talent up until her endeavor in singing live.

Better Call Saul is one of my favorite characters...he's actually a loyal character, in his way lol. At least up to what I've seen so far.

Over the course of the series, I rooted for these people in this order. Walt, then Jesse, then Gus, then Jesse, then Mike, then Jesse, then Hank, then Jesse.

I think a fundamental element of the entire series is the freedom we have in ascribing our choice of meaning to whatever we do. Saul was probably the most honest and accurate at that. Walt was the most duplicitous, even to himself. Jesse was a fundamental failure at finding any meaning.
