lost_in_this_world
It's has been a long time since I have been on here and most of my old posts related to my brother and his girlfriend (my ex best friend), I am happy to report they are now happily married. Now for me, I feel as though I am at a crossroads, I have an extremely demanding job and am struggling to see if it is worth it. i have slightly looked into a new job but still the problem is that work is my life. I don't know how to balance time off with working. Mind you I work around 80-100 hours a week. I also have a long commute which is fine but am struggling with the fact that in 10 years from now I look back and am still unhappy, then what will all the work be for? Apologies for my rant that probably doesn't make much sense but its how it is. My friends are all getting married and moving on in life an I don't even have time for a relationship. ugh life. When do I get my presents, is what I'd like to know.
blazeingstar
I think if you're working 80-100 hours a week you really need to re-focus your priorities. Its not healthy or sustainable.

In my experience, you'll know what to do with your time once you have some. Kinda like buying tools: you buy the tool first, and uses for it will appear out of nowhere. Examples of stuff to do with time outside of work: hobbies romance learn to cook learn whatever you want to learn be active build things waste time play Or if you're the Joker, you could just watch the world burn. Some men like that kind of thing I hear. ;)
CatherineM
You need to take a long look at the difference between your job, your career, and your vocation.

You could try a group called Network 21, web search it. They claim to be able to get you more time for the same money, over time of course. :)

Aya Sophia
i am a sous chef in a restaurant I get it. Chef goes home at nine, sous-chef at midnight, dishwashers at 2AM. Hard life for most in it. I knew it was not my vocation when, one evening in the grilling station, grilling some succulent little lambchops (and my face with them), I happened to look at the temp on the meat thermometer in my breast pocket - 121F. Is the life you're living now part of a dream unfolding (meaning, you went to cooking school, you hope to be a chef, you might even open your own restaurant, etc.)? Or, is it something you happened into? This might make a difference in what action you take to try to change your circumstances. Wish I had some practical and helpful suggestions. I can only say: I commiserate completely.
