Apteka
Exclusive: Russian Court Bans Quran Stand for Peace rarely covers extremism incidents outside of Britain. This Russian court’s ruling, however, is a rather extraordinary step and deserves extensive coverage. - Colin Cortbus, Stand For Peace Fellow "A Russian court has banned the most popular translation of the Quran into Russian, in a move likely to spark strong outrage. The ‘October’ District Court in the Russian black sea-port city of Novorossiysk ruled that Elmir Kuliev’s ‘Meaning of the holy Quran in Russian language’ is “recognized as extremist†and therefore banned under Russian legislation that prevents the dissemination and possession of material deemed “extremistâ€... Basilisa Marie
Well seeing as they've tried to ban the Bavagad Vita, this comes at no surprise.
Apotheoun
The court described in the article is a "transport court" in Novorossiysk a municipal area in a federal territory (krai) of the Russian Federation. So it is like the US Post Office in a specific town in America declaring a particular book sent through the U.S. postal service system as extremist. The book came from Saudi Arabia and Russia has had problems with Wahhabist groups from Saudi Arabia trying to recruit young Muslim men living in Russia into organizations that support violent activities (i.e., Islamist terror groups). That said, the article makes it sound like the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation has banned this translation of the Qur'an. 4588686
So is America's. Russia and America are not in the same state regarding the rise of illiberal politics. I know you're a Republican so I'd add that the Clinton Whitehouse is largely to blame for Russia's political collapse.

4588686
I'm pretty drunk and not currently in a place to access keyboards. But I'd add that Putin's youth vanguard movement is Nashee. Which is the Russian word for 'Ours.'

America is moving in a very totalitarian direction with more federal interference in every day life. Russia has also been moving, and it is certainly a lot freer today than it was prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union. I know you probably have no memory of that system of government, but I do. Heck you probably have no actual memory of the Berlin Wall or anything else about the Eastern block.
