Antigonos
This is a bit off-topic, but I know you folks, and so, rather than go to Prayer Requests where I am unknown [for obvious reasons]: I have a close friend who has been diagnosed with fairly advanced cancer, and begins chemotherapy soon. Both she and her husband are exceptional people. Having, in first marriages, raised families, after they married each other they adopted two girls with Down's Syndrome [they were both well past 40 at the time; raising anyone at that age is not easy, let alone two with disabilities] who are now teenagers. I don't think the girls can comprehend that Mother is sick and might not recover and I'm not sure that their father can cope on his own [he's about 70 and not in the best of health himself] The Jewish custom is to recite psalms for the ill person, as well as praying for a complete recovery. If anyone here would be willing to do so, I would appreciate it. The psalms should be dedicated to Aviva bat [daughter of] Sara. Thanks a lot. This is a non-denominal request, I think <g>

AnneLine
Antigonos, I would be honored to pray psalms for your friend Aviva bat Sara, and to pray for her complete recovery. I will also ask others to do so! My husband and I were deeply grateful when you took the name of his mother, Charlotte bat Rose and placed it on the Wailing Wall for us. You have added so much kind wisdom on this Phorum over the years, this is the least we can do for you! And a blessed New Year a little late! A psalm of David: 2 (1) May Adonai answer you in times of distress, may the name of the God of Ya‘akov protect you.3 (2) May he send you help from the sanctuaryand give you support from Tziyon.4 (3) May he be reminded by all your grain offeringsand accept the fat of your burnt offerings. AnneLine
Ps. 128 1. A psalm of Ascents. Praiseworthy is every man who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways. 2. If you eat the toil of your hands, you are praiseworthy, and it is good for you. 3. Your wife will be as a fruitful vine in the innermost parts of your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. 4. Behold that so will a man who fears the Lord be blessed. 5. May the Lord bless you from Zion, and see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life. 6. And may you see children [born] to your children, [and see] peace upon Israel.
AnneLine
Antigonos... I took the liberty of posting your request in the Prayer Room, with a suggestion that they come here to see the details of your request. Since we can't post props on your post, perhaps some people may wish to prop this one or Nunsense's as a flag to you that they have been praying. Praying for you, your friend, and her children and husband....

brandelynmarie
Psalm 16 1 A Miktam of David. Preserve me, O God, for in thee I take refuge. 2 I say to the LORD, "Thou art my Lord; I have no good apart from thee." 3 As for the saints in the land, they are the noble, in whom is all my delight. 4 Those who choose another god multiply their sorrows; their libations of blood I will not pour out or take their names upon my lips. 5 The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; thou holdest my lot. 6 The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. 7 I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. 8 I keep the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices; my body also dwells secure. 10 For thou dost not give me up to Sheol, or let thy godly one see the Pit. 11 Thou dost show me the path of life; in thy presence there is fulness of joy, in thy right hand are pleasures for evermore. Lil'Nun
Psalm 6[a] For the director of music. With stringed instruments. According to sheminith.[b] A psalm of David. 1 Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.2 Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint; heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.3 My soul is in deep anguish. How long, Lord, how long? 4 Turn, Lord, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.5 Among the dead no one proclaims your name. Who praises you from the grave? 6 I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes. 8 Away from me, all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping.9 The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer.10 All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish; they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame.
