rkwright
So beautiful. I have been to that church about 8 years ago. Meanwhile I just read reports that the cardinal in charge of the liturgy - whatever that title is - who was noted for his love of traditionalism has been demoted out of the position. rkwright
If I remember right, this Church was used for grain storage during USSR times.
Apotheoun
The Church, as I understand it, was closed and the priests and monks arrested in the 1930s. The iconography was then destroyed and the building was used for secular purposes.

Yes. It was a painstaking process. The artists who restored the Church used photographs and other surviving information about the iconography as it existed prior to its destruction during the period of Soviet atheist persecution. Apotheoun
More than 25,000 Russian Orthodox Churches have been built or have been restored to divine service since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. The video below shows excerpts from the celebration of the Rite of Consecration for the newly completed Cathedral of the Resurrection in the Khanty-Mansiysk region east of the Ural Mountains. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nl7EBbIuPFw
