Lilllabettt
It is apparent you have not spoken with a New Englander. At least recently. Everything is wicked amesome, or wicked cool, or wicked stupid. It's part of our accent. Prayers for anyone going to school. School is the slaughterhouse of the human soul. Brainwashed and given false purpose sent into the world to wait to burn... Unless they come across a true believer. Then and only then may they change. mmm kay. Luigi
Prayers for anyone going to school. School is the slaughterhouse of the human soul. Brainwashed and given false purpose sent into the world to wait to burn... Unless they come across a true believer. Then and only then may they change. In Italy, I bought a T-shirt that says "La scuola uccide" - School kills.
Lilllabettt
Do the professors encourage gunner-ing? If so, I am so, so sorry. If not, ignore them, they're fools who will burn out. One of my professors mocks the gunners in public; for example, once when one of them said something pompous he asked them if they had been to Europe to "find" themselves. Things like that. So most of them have given up with him. The other teachers don't seem to notice --- they just kind of stare at the gunner with a bewildered expression. I'll throw a prayer your way. Edited September 23, 2013 by Ice_nine
cmaD2006
Having done my undergrad at a school full of gunners I hear ya ... but at some point you'll realize that you are just as good a gunner as those around you. Praying for your aim to be spot on :) Besides I know that you're "wicked smart" (prounounced in 'Bostonian').
Eowyn
I can give you absolutely no advice on grad school, as I chickened out on the opportunity. I can promise you prayers.
CatherineM
I'm hoping to be working on my masters thesis this time next year. I'm on the decade plan, so not a gunner.
AnneLine
I remember the 1st day of grad school, the head honchos stood in front of the herd of newbies and proclaimed: We have just decided to make you decide TODAY whether YOU will be on a 1 or 2 or 3 year program. You must choose today! When you approach the desk, be prepared to announce your decision. I walked up there looked the prof taking down our answers in the eye and said. Hello, I am AnneLine and I am on a 4 year plan. He looked at me like I was a Martian. I smiled, and said, I am an exception to your schedule. My husband has just been diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, and I am going to have to keep working full time while doing your program. I intend to do well in this program and to complete it, and my employer has agreed to flex my hours around your schedule and my internships, but I will need to do it over 4 years. You got a problem with that? After staring a little longer, he shook his head -- no, he did not have a problem with that. I graduated with honors in 4 years... with only 2 of my remaining classmates from that 1st year.... some had graduated, a few had dropped out. BUT I had a live husband and a sane lifestyle. MANY of my classmates did not. Do it on your terms, Lilllabettt, with respect and firmness. You can do it... we are praying for you.
