AugustineA
The interesting thing is that there are certainly many goats, as it were, in the flocks of the Bible Belt. I suppose that it's probably kind of like what life was like in Europe during the middle ages. When the church and society are one in the same and there really is no way for one to renounce the religion (without consequences that can be undesirable), then there are earnestly devout people as well as disingenuous people who masquerade as being devout. That's a bad situation, and I can think of at least two reasons. There is no compulsion in true faith. Catholics & Christians ought to be aware of the many forms of compulsion. That situation could also inadvertently push people away from the Church. When society is saturated by Christian trappings, any bad experiences with that society could be projected on the church. My experience in an evangelical church as a kid certainly influenced my rebellion against Christians at an early age. I mean it raises a whole heap of questions about society and religion.. :spike: Anyways... coffee...
