AugustineA
I noticed on wikipedia it says that Catholicism is growing rapidly in Sweden despite rampant secularism. It also says there are not many ethnic Catholic Swedes. Although the ones that are Catholic have converted to Lutheranism and tend to be traditionalists. Does anyone have anymore information on this? Is anyone here Swedish or been to Sweden? What did you experience? I'm fully Canadian, but my mother's side is Swedish... very Swedish. I've always heard that the nordic countries are very atheist. Nihil Obstat
We had a resident Norwegian member some time ago. Since they are sort of neighbours, I wonder if she has any insight on that.
AugustineA
Oh woops, I meant to say converted from Lutheranism. She was attending St.Anthony's Nihil?
Nihil Obstat
No no, I meant a Norwegian PM member. :hehe: She was super cool. In the process of converting to Catholicism from Church of Norway, I believe, but last I heard the process was stalled because of health issues. Hope she is doing ok these days. As someone from the nether-regions of the Bible Belt, you're not missing too much. Don't get me wrong, it's home and I love it, but it's pretty much what you'd expect. AugustineA
And yet, it's true that it is better than a church on every corner and no faith an all... True story. It reminds me of B16's philosophy towards the Church.
Vincent Vega
The interesting thing is that there are certainly many goats, as it were, in the flocks of the Bible Belt. I suppose that it's probably kind of like what life was like in Europe during the middle ages. When the church and society are one in the same and there really is no way for one to renounce the religion (without consequences that can be undesirable), then there are earnestly devout people as well as disingenuous people who masquerade as being devout.
