What Are The Bloodz And The Crips?

In my psychosis i thought the bloodz where protestant roots and claimed you can only believe in jesus and the crips where catholic roots and believed you should also honour mary, hence the red(jesus) and the blue(mary), the whole english irish protestant catholic thing all over again. There may even be a hint of that in there somewhere,who knows. But i just watched 10 or so minutes of a documentary on the two gangs and couldn't watch anymore, but supposedly the african american gangs started before the bloodz and the crips and there was a short peace from that bought about by the black panthers who united african americans u.s wide. And then for some reason the black panthers became divided and the bloodz and crips where birthed from that and where young men trying to emulate what the black panthers had temporarily achieved to little success.

 

I would like to hear any other info anyone has on these two gangs.

I started watching a documentary on them but only got to 10 minutes. Hopefully one day i can watch the whole thing, but it is all interviews with bloodz and crips, i was hoping for the view of perhaps someone who lived in l.a. who wasn't a blood or crip but had a fair idea of the whole history of the saga and a present update on the situation, pretty much i need the down low from an outsider whom is sane but understanding that most gangs have roots and reasons for there stance. From this doco it just makes it look like real messy organised crime, a melee/schism.
