CrossCuT
I just think a responsible gun owner who chooses to carry should do so concealed. Hi Nihil

Lil Red
That is a very good point! Walmarts are often shady however I have never walked into a Walmart where a cop wasnt right there in the entry way or somewhere near by. how is a cop by the entry way going to save your ass if you're way out in the parking lot if someone decides to threaten you? (because you always have to park in BFE when you go to walmart) (also: the Walmarts here have rent-a-cops, but I have almost never seen them standing in the entry way.) Nihil Obstat
Parking lots, especially large ones, are one place where you are at much higher risk of getting mugged or otherwise involved in a dangerous situation. They are ideal for violent criminals for a variety of reasons.
Lil Red
I had the same line of thought as you did FP. Being a female myself, i think its good that these ladies are taking steps to be more secure if a dangerous event occurs. Would I purchase a gun myself? No. I opt for non lethal means of protection FIRST; like a taser. But thats just me. But I agree...if you really wanted to protect yourself, Id stash it in my purse! If there was a person who was intent on doing harm, what would stop them from overpowering me and taking the exposed gun right off me? Im only 5'2 and do not have a lot of upper body strength so it wouldnt be hard. But the point of this post is that people need to understand that if you are carrying a weapon around, expect to be checked! The guns were not taken away, no rights were violated. Checking for a permit is the SENSIBLE, reasonable, and responsible thing to do. Funny thing about guns is that if there is a gun involved in any situation, your chances of getting shot go up. Weird how that works. a point of clarification: guns shouldn't be stashed in purses unless it is a purse that is designed to carry a gun. there are ways of carrying that aren't necessarily "showy" though. also: if a woman decides to carry, they should practice practice practice so that if they are in a situation, they have prepared for how to draw in differing situations. Lil Red
Why do girls need to carry guns, is rape epidemic in the u.s.? I wouldn't know. I'm not being sarcastic, my question is, 'is rape epidemic in the u.s.? If it isn't then probably they don't need to holster there guns. Probably just leave them at home in case a dictator comes along and rises to the hot seat in the white house or an invading foreign army is on the way. Which i'm pretty sure wouldn't be like those hollywood end of the world flicks, most people would have a chance to get home and get there guns, or perhaps raid the nearest store and grab some gatts and ammo. :) i re-iterate: the reason to carry all the time is because you never know when you will be the target of criminals. that goes for men and women. but yes, i think that women are targeted more often than men (simply because women are seen as physically weaker). Lil Red
Discussing rape is kind of off topic. I dont know the reasons these girls decided to purchase guns but that is irrelevant anyway. They are allowed to buy guns regardless of the reasons. This thread concerns mostly the police response to the situation and if it was appropriate or not. sorry to get off-topic. :)

If someone threatens you in a public area like a walmart parking lot, they are stupid. Good luck to them because they have balls rofl But in all seriousness, I dont have an answer LilRed. You could further that line of thinking to need a cop ANYWHERE I guess. ZOMG dont leave your house because someone might be waiting outside to shoot you. You could become an insane recluse if you allowed yourself to go that far; but all of this needs to be taken within reason. If you really feel threatened at walmar...dont go. If a cop isnt close enough for your comfort, go buy a gun. I dont really give a bother. This may be a reason for you to purchase a gun, but it isnt a reason for me to purchase one. I am not against guns, but I will forever and always be in favor of non lethal force before lethal if needed.
CrossCuT
sorry to get off-topic. :) Eh at this point it doesnt matter. A lot of people have different concerns but they are all related in some way. Just didnt want this to turn into a rape discussion thread.
Winchester
Well, people can choose to cross the road if they want to. If they get hit then I guess its their fault. I find a hard time comparing that to a gun for a few reasons as far as enforcing laws goes, so I dont think your example applies. It isnt reasonable to have an officer at every light because its pretty common sense. People cant choose if someone pulls a gun out and shoots them so its nice to have an officer around to make sure the situation is safe. You accidentally the conversation. 4588686
This is idiotic. Anybody who thinks its cute to take a gun into a crowded store, knowing full well how frightened a lot of people there will be and why they are rightfully afraid, has no right to polite society. Floppy these people. This isn't cute. It's sadistic and pathetic.

The issue with this line of thinking is that it reinforces the idea of being dependent on cops. If you're dependent on cops to keep you safe, you'll die. Simply because cops are never around when you need them to be (Not a slam at cops, cities are simply large and it takes a long time for them to get where they need to be when someone calls in). What are you going to do if you go to Wal-Mart and are held up in the back of the parking lot with no cops around and you can't do anything because you've spent your whole life depending on cops? This isn't even including the fact that cops sometimes turn a blind eye when they see something going on, or are in fact sometimes involved with the something going on. Sometimes cops snap and they beat down innocent civilians or do something regrettable like shoot an owner's dog for no reason (I assume you remember that from the news?). You can't rely on the government to save your life. Be independent and learn to save yourself if necessary, and consider it a bonus if law enforcement just happens to be around and does something. As for the pigs we just had a young African American man murdered by cops down here after he tried to get help after a car accident. Went to knock on a ladies house and she called the cops. Cops showed up and pumped two mags of 9mm into him. No taser and no weapon. If anyone has seen one of the "good" cops I keep hearing about please let me know. Unstable people carrying guns in a crowded space does, however, make me worry. As should anybody. And those cops should be prosecuted. What's your point? Do we even know who called the police and whether the store owner/manager had anything to do with this? Is that particular store carry friendly? Walmart isn't a public space (it's private), so we have to take all dis into consideration.
