all the Churches are universal... one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church... but they express it in different ways.  I just don't think the Roman Church needs to be trying to particularize its traditions the way the Eastern Churches are so keen on doing.

 

of course it shouldn't both do indulgences and not do indulgences, that's ridiculous and its that kind of over-the-top absurd drawing of lines that sometimes makes debating with you quite frustrating, Apo.  it should maintain its theological framework, of course, but draw upon the wisdom of the East also as much as that can speak to its members... indulgences are barely practiced anymore by so many, of course, but there's nothing wrong with them... but there's also nothing wrong with Romans learning from Eastern Theology and trying to enrich their understanding of the practices of indulgences through that... not becoming fully Easterners, but also not trying to guard against "Easternizing" influences IMO.

Yes, all the local Churches are Catholic, and Catholic means that they are all individually "according to the whole," which means that each one lacks nothing.

 

What you are talking about doing is creating a gigantic Church that is no longer local. But there is no such Church, nor can there be, because the one Catholic and Apostolic Church always exists in a given place. There really is no universal Church, just as there is no universal synaxis or universal Eucharist. The one Church exists only in and through the many local Churches, and so it cannot be said to exist over them or in separation from them.

The more that the Roman Church tries to be "universal" in the sense of encompassing all rites within itself simultaneously, the less it will be a real concrete Church.

Despite our previous "fights" over guns and gun contol, I certainly understand that your driving force is to minimise force and coercion.
I too would like a minimal government but for a different reason, I prefer people to be able to make their own decisions and not have a government make too many decisions on behalf of people. I think this leads to a more tolerant, diverse and interesting society than one that is overly controlled.
I have had a conversation with a person that is pro anarcho-capitalism but it seemed crazy to me at the time. Because I see many problems with the poor beng unable to pay for police, fire service, medical, waste disposal, running water etc.
But I would be interested in exploring your ideas, if you have the time and interest? Or merely if you have some links to useful sites.
Anway, just to say that I am interested.

There's a thread about this somewhere. Someone suggested a debate. I'd prefer a discussion. As far as resources, I think Walter Block, Stephan Kinsella, and Gerard Casey are the best, with Kinsella being the least patient.
