Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
Why aren't we telling people about the life, death and resurrection of The Son of God anyway in real time, why does there have to be a movie? Like i'm glad there is going to be a movie but it says to me we as Christians aren't fulfilling our evangelical mission, whether due to lack of understanding, lack of prayer, lack of knowledge,to much entertainment or whatever it isn't happening and vatican 2 was meant to empower the laity to be more evangelical and not just the orders and priests. Unless we address this as well as having movies etc nothing will change.

Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
Sorry that all may seem a bit cold, i do look forward to viewing this movie, and outside of Hasan being in a cathedral doing a rosary this is also good news, i hope. Why i say i hope is that hopefully it's not cut, chop, edited and half artistic licence, like so many previous movies except the passion of christ, if this is so the message will be lost. :( I didn't get to see the series 'The Bible.' AccountDeleted
Look, I love anything about Jesus, even a bad film. I might complain and criticize the bad ones, but it's still better than NOT watching a film about Jesus. :)
Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
Perhaps it may open up some people to inquire further about Jesus and Christianity. I do hope so. :) But also if it teaches error in it's artistry and people believe the errors, then it will have the opposite effect. :( Edited September 16, 2013 by Tab'le Du'Bah-Rye
Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
Also nunsense, if i had 3 crucifixes and all 3 where incomplete and had serious error, one even being a dragon on a cross, one could say well at least the cross is there and people get the sacrificial message. Which one are you going to choose? Shouldn't we choose to have none because all 3 are erroneous. I do hope so. :) But also if it teaches error in it's artistry and people believe the errors, then it will have the opposite effect. :( I'm not so sure about that last statement of yours, Tab. I was an agnostic before I converted and I saw many films about Jesus like Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell. These were artistic and modernistic and not particularly accurate in their details - but they inspired me nonetheless to have a respect for Jesus and to want to know more. If you try to wrap everything up in neat little packages, it becomes propaganda. Trust a little that God can use anything to bring someone to Him. You love rap music, for example. I hate it. What works for one doesn't work for another. So some artistic movie that paints a pretty picture of the life of Jesus may just be the first step for someone who happens to like this kind of media. We don't need to control everything - in fact, we don't. As for this, we are not talking about a movie that shows Jesus as a dragon - just one that may not completely represent Catholic dogma. There are many lovely Christian movies made by Protestants - not perfect in theology but still worth watching and inspiring. One of my favorites as an agnostic child was King of Kings. I think you are being a little too rigid in your thinking, but that is just my opinion. By the way, one of the people involved in the film is Roma Downey who was also involved in the TV series Touched By An Angel. It was not Catholic but it was good. The time to condemn something is after you have seen it - not before. Edited September 16, 2013 by nunsense
Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
I cringe at The statue of our lady of fatima having the holy rosary around both hands. Jacinta's vision had the rosary beads only in the right hand. This could be perhaps part of the reason the mission of fatima isn't as successful as it could be. And also i understand what your saying i just don't think Jesus should have per-say entertainment value. This value could remain in a person who converts in such a way, looking for entertainment from Christianity, instead of faith, hope, love and charity among other rather(to me) serious virtues. AccountDeleted
Well, Tab, I'm just glad God doesn't think like you do or I would never have made it to Him. :) As far as I am concerned, He works with our weaknesses and our failings, so whether we put in one Rosary or two, or smile at a song or dance in a movie about Jesus, I'm pretty sure He's ok with it, even if you aren't. He ate and drank with prostitutes and tax collectors so I doubt He would judge us quite so harshly. Really brother, lighten up a little. :)
Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
. And i did say hopefully it triggers some people to inquire more deeply about Jesus and Christianity, i just think there is a better way that can reach more people. AccountDeleted
:) Be careful that light isn't actually false light. Be careful that whatever it is you are drinking tonight isn't as strong as it was the other night. You can get a little carried away. :)

I just don't take my faith in the sense of 'lighten up' i'm mostly serious about faith, hope and love, fun in the sense of Hollywood entertainment is to me a distraction from the truth, i don't wan't to be distracted from a truth that i can loose.
