Guest
I will pay someone who is Catholic and Holy 5,000 cash to let me come and stay with them and practice the faith with them...It would be nice if the person went to daily mass but I would be willing to stay with someone who doesn't...I will only bring a few sets of clothes and nothing else...I can provide my full name and social security so you can do a background check on me....I was arrested 7 years ago for dui that is the only thing on my record....I just turned 32....Have been living in Vegas the last 4 years playing poker for a living....I need to get away from here and form a friendship with someone Holy who can bring me closer to the Lord....Male or female doesn't matter....I'm not looking for a girlfriend...I am straight and not gay....I'm just at a really low point in life right now and spirtually also....I need to make a drastic change....I will give you the 5 k up front....I will be willing to sleep on a couch or floor....I will eat light and that would be provided by you as part of the money I give you....I don't really know how long I would stay that would be up to you....Of course I would leave as soon as you wanted....I don't know if I would work....I don't think I would....I would just like to be involved in prayer and going to Mass....I could help out with chores and things like that....Of course there tons of things you could be worried about by taking this offer....I understand that.....If you are mabey interested I guess pray on it.....Personal message me if you would like....I don't expect no one to take me up on this but who knows....I just need to make a drastic change in my life and I'm lost at what to do.....Godbless and please keep me in your prayers pham....Godbless......Josh
Nihil Obstat
Dude, I would take you up on that for sure, if I were single and living on my own. Good luck in working things out, man. I think this is an excellent, if very difficult, idea. Perhaps check with your diocese and neighbouring dioceses to see if there are a) medium to long term living space in retreat centres, monasteries, etc., and b) some kind of live-in program for those discerning the priesthood (basically the sort of environment you want to be in, regardless of your discerning status). dUSt
Dude. Find a mission you can volunteer at. I'd happily take you in, but my wife would not be down with that. haha

Nihil Obstat
So far in this thread, I've learned that women are difficult. :P More like it would be hella weird to have some guy from t'internetz living in my family's house with myself, my wife, my mom, and my brothers. If it were just me it would not matter, because I would not find it weird, but other people would. It was weird enough when J_Lol stayed overnight. CatherineM
In my case, my husband would freak. If I take in one more homeless person, I'm going to be one.
ToJesusMyHeart
I wish I could help, Josh. My roommates would not be okay with it. I'll pray that you find somewhere safe and spiritually healthy to stay. But do take the others' advice and look for service opportunities/missions/monasteries to take you in. Contact your diocese or another diocese if you want to move and ask if they have any housing available.

Luigi
Look into a monastery. $5,000 would get you a pretty decent stay at most places, I should think - several months? Benedictine monasteries almost all have some sort of accommodations for guests - Benedict said that the monks should accept guests as they would accept Christ. You'd have access to daily Mass. You'd be able to pray with the monks. You might be able to get some spiritual direction. I'm not sure of all the geography out in those parts, but there's a place in Valyermo, CA called St. Andrew's. Check it out - the link takes you straight to the Guesthouse page. There are a few other links to check out on the page. http://gh.saintandrewsabbey.com/about/welcome.htm

AccountDeleted
If you like farms, you might contact Our Lady of the Rock Monastery in Shaw Island, Washington State. When I was there, they had a farm manager who stayed with them while his boat was being repaired over winter (several months) then he left. now they rely on farm interns and volunteers to help out. They could give you accommodation and food at probably no charge if you helped with some farm chores. It is a beautiful place. The have a priest who lives there, they have daily Mass and pray the Divine Office in Latin. Even if you don't want to do farm work, they allow guests for a donation. I live in Australia so can't offer a place to stay - sorry.
Basilisa Marie
If you don't get any bites from people on here, definitely try some monasteries. Even just staying for a week or two might make a world of difference for you, or at least help you get to a point where you can figure out what to do next. I just did a quick google search and found a couple in New Mexico. http://www.christdesert.org/ and http://pecosmonastery.org/index.html The second monastery was actually founded by Trappist monks, and sold to Benedictines when the Trappists moved to Oregon. When I'm home and in need of a quick personal retreat I actually drive down to the Oregon abbey belonging to that group of Trappists (small world). The Pecos monastery also takes applications for extended stay volunteers (mostly in the summer, but it's worth a shot). I'll keep you in my prayers. arfink
In response to OP: You should perhaps check out organizations like NET or St. Paul's Outreach. Check at local Catholic colleges, and see if any of the Catholic Men's houses need an extra occupant. Seriously, the sort of accommodation you are looking for does exist. http://www.spoweb.org/ http://www.netusa.org/ Edited September 11, 2013 by arfink
