CrossCuT
Supported by Smuagen Inc., a new vaccine (SAV001-H) developed by Dr Chil- Yong Kang passed the phase 1 clinical trials. This is a first of its kind vaccine that it is a genetically modified killed whole virus (Similar to the Flu and Polio Vaccines) and because of that the first phase of trials was simply to test if there were any significant side effects. A group HIV positive men and women volunteers participated in the trial and were monitored with clinical tests and physical observation for any severe adverse effects. None were found from any of the participants. This is huge and really awesome! HIV is a really tricky bug to nail down and previous HIV vaccines have failed because of it. HIV/AIDS has killed 35 million people worldwide, and more than 34 million people currently live with the virus infection. Sumagen anticipates not only having the first HIV vaccine in market but also the eradication of HIV/AIDS for human beings. http://communications.uwo.ca/media/releases/2013/September/no_adverse_effects_in_volunteers_following_phase_i_clinical_trial_of_sumagen_aids_vaccine.html Phase II & III of the trial will be testing for and measuring the level of antibodies that build as a result to see if the immune response is strong enough.
