Spem in alium
I like this thread :) My family used to eat more unhealthily. Not seriously bad, but we had a lot more meat, pasta and pastry-type foods. When my dad decided he wanted to start eating healthy, we cut most of that out. Generally, I'll have rolled oats (porridge) for breakfast, with some yoghurt or fruit and a coffee. They're actually very filling so I don't find myself needing to snack much between meals. For lunch I like salads, sandwiches or nuts. It really depends if I'm at home or uni. Dinners are varied, we eat fish, vegetables and lean meat. Curries, roasts and soups are what we usually had in winter, but summer we tend to make salads. I love making salads - so fun!
CrossCuT
One of the FAVORITE salads is a sweet vinaigrette (which I make from apple cider vinegar, sugar, oil, and parsley) with mandarin oranges and almond slices. It is FABULOUS! http://allrecipes.com/recipe/betsys-mandarin-orange-salad/ I do NOT include the red onions (yuck) or the celery lol
ContemporaryCaflicCrusader
Oreos for lunch again, weights again, pushups again, stomach things. Prolly evens out.
CrossCuT
You should eat some real food if you want to bulk up in the muscle department :flex2:
EmilyAnn
CrossCut is right! Eating junk will never get you anywhere. You need PROTEIN. I agree with what AnneLine said about moderation. My problem is usually less that what I eat is unhealthy and more that I eat TOO MUCH. Although when I do eat unhealthily, the eating too much means I eat LOTS of unhealthy stuff. I'm having to practice a lot of self-control...especially when I'm left alone in a house full of biscuits :P
CrossCuT
I dont want to cut anything out of my diet that I love. Moderation is the key! So my attempt to choose less fattening products for the day to day meals is in an effort to balance some of the foods I love like ICE CREAM!!!! You just have to be aware, thats all. If you dont consume a lot of excess fat in your diet, then by all means eat the regular versions of your favorite products from the store! However in my case, I know that I get too much fat in my diet so I opt for the reduced fat items where possible. It really just depends person to person. The KEY is to make it a routine that can be maintained for a lifetime. Those diets that say "EAT NO FAT AND NO CARBS EVER!!!!!!!!!!" Are just band aids as well as unhealthy. They dont solve a weight problem; they just postpone it for a little while. People become overweight because their lifestyle needs a makeover. Going 3 months eating ONLY Special K products (as part of their "diet") for breakfast AND lunch is just not a reasonable way to approach weight loss. I dont even like to call it diets or weight loss....its being healthy and changing your lifestyle. When you find something that works for you, stick with it! Chrysophylax
Actually, my sister has been looking for some ideas on what she can eat for breakfast that either has not many carbs, or carbs with fat. Eggs with ham or something, I suppose, but she doesn't like to have eggs all the time.. Anyone have tips?

Eggs with ham or something, I suppose, but she doesn't like to have eggs all the time.. Anyone have tips? I did a search for "low carb breakfast" and got mostly eggs! I can see why your sister has been having trouble. One friend of mine used to make fruit muffins for her breakfast, I think her recipe had applesauce or something in. You could probably find some good low fat and low carb recipes online. Depending on the weather, yoghurt and fruit or smoothies could work too. Spem in alium
You should eat some real food if you want to bulk up in the muscle department :flex2: Ah....bulking up... :pinch: My brother (who is athletic but skinny) was on this "bulk-up" phase for a couple of weeks and took on a diet that consisted of drinking copious amounts of milk with each meal. It didn't make him anything other than sick and left the household out of milk. Moderation (and a bit of common sense) is definitely key.
AnneLine
That is HILARIOUS and so true, Spem!!!!! CCC I have a bunch of guy friends who swore they couldn't lose weight OR improve on their weights, until they started eating a more balanced diet. Apparently it really IS about getting the right proportion of carbs, proteins, and sugars at reasonably spaced intervals throughout the day. There are websites that will help you learn to do this and give you community while you do it... www.sparkpeople.com is one of them -- and some of the guys on there are in your (LUCKY!) boat... trying to GAIN weight..... AnneLine
Something like peanut butter or cheese can help with the protein without too many carbs.... but a small amount of carbs with those is totally appropriate for breakfast....
Spem in alium
That is HILARIOUS and so true, Spem!!!!! Haha yeah, my brother's a bit crazy. He also dismantled his wardrobe in order to turn his bedroom into a gym, but that's another story. :hehe2:

CCC -- I just realized I answered that too quickly. My guy friends were saying they couldn't GAIN weight until they started eating a more balanced, healthy combo of foods. You can still have your goodies... but you need to also push the protein, healthier carbs and fruits and veges. Sad but true. And... if you are so inclined... eating those for the right reason can be an EXCELLENT penance if you are so inclined....

Its too bad your brother had a bad experience but no one should drink a TON of milk all at one time. It gets to a point where you no longer and produce enzyme fast enough to digest the milk so you end up just puking it all out. There are healthy and non healthy ways of doing everything. Just pick the healthy ways of doing it.
