southern california guy
I dropped my laptop and then discovered that there were lines on the screen. I was able to get rid of them by flexing the screen a little. But then they came back... And I had to flex the screen much harder to fix the lines the second time... Then I heard a "pop!" -- and I broke the screen :cry3:
Nihil Obstat
That was not what I expected to read.
arfink
Fortunately, if all you broke was the glass panel portion (and it sounds like that is what broke) that is generally not the most horribly expensive thing to fix.

A replacement screen for my model is almost $200. It was a $260 computer when I bought it 2 years ago.. I went out and bought a new computer instead. In fact I went for the $360 HP Sleekbook. ;)
arfink
Ah, makes sense. For a low-end computer it's not worth it. However, I can tell you many a tale (including from my own experience) of getting top-tier notebook computer hardware for the cost of replacing the screen myself. The glass/pcb/cables combination is usually cheap if you know how to source it, and if you're very crafty (and have too much time on your hands) you can use any LVDS compatible screen and route your own cables. I've seen a fellow who hooked up a Retina display to an Alienware laptop that way.

Selah
Ahh. that sucks. My old one had the monitor screen crack, and I'm debating getting it fixed or just saving all the old docs on there and transporting to this one.
