Anastasia13
As someone disillusioned by false patriotism of a nation whose citizen's too often don't even care to vote, this poem made me want to applaud. He's not always right, but this is not without merit. http://youtu.be/S2Ks06Al8c0
Ice_nine
I will watch this, but first I must say that's a really horrible screen cap to start out with. Is he gonna yell at me? It looks like he's about to yell at me. K, I watched it. Slam poetry never feels to make me uncomfortable. He has a few points but nothing I haven't really heard before I guess. Since I'm just thinking out loud, if we didn't have such a strong military presence around the world and weren't so good at blowing shit up, would our lives be peaceful or dangerous. Like if Americur just stopped occupying other countries at will and weren't jamming their guns up everyone's ass would our homes turn into a warzone? I think while US military intervention in many cases makes it hell for most of the people involved, it helps make our lives pretty cushy here. Sometimes freedom and safety/security are at odds with each other. It's 3 am so I'm not making much sense *gives up
Vincent Vega
The fact that he equates "patriotism" and cultural/religious identity (if I recall correctly) made me do little more than roll my eyes at him.

Anastasia13
The fact that he equates "patriotism" and cultural/religious identity (if I recall correctly) made me do little more than roll my eyes at him. I don't know. A little while after 9/11, popular patriotism meant waiving a flag, talking about being proud of America, never criticizing the government, my country right or wrong. You could not publicly disagree without being unpatriotic. For all that, we had a whole 6.4 percent increase in voter turnout, and to quote Ron Paul, "dissent is patriotic," which I agree with because our country was found on people who were willing to question the ruling powers and stand up for what they believed in, not just words but ideals and ideas. Anastasia13
And that can be said to be a cultural shift.
