Basilisa Marie
Just fyi, liberation theology is complicated, and at its core is about seeing Christ in the poor and how we as Christians have an obligation to work for a just society. It gets problematic when people use it as justification for violent overthrows of the government, put too much emphasis on the "human" Jesus over the "divine" Jesus (since Jesus is both!), or turn Christianity into something no different than a charity organization. Those are some of the reasons why Benedict and others spoke out so harshly against it. Liberation theology has become a dirty word synonymous with heresy, but in small, controlled doses it's actually fine.
Poorly Catechized Convert
Oh, I thought Liberation Theology reinterpreted the Gospel to be about a class struggle between rich and poor. I was told that proponents of this say that Jesus's purpose was to provide financial liberation. I guess there was more to it than those things. Thanks for the clarification, that doesn't make it seem near as bad as I thought. Do you know anything else about JustFaith Ministries?
