havok579257
So what does someone do when their relative says it is their final wish they be cremated and their ashes spread in the ocean/lake wherever. Does one follow the last wishes of the relative/grandparent or refuse to follow their last wishes? I know the catholic church is against spreading ashes. Although what does one do in a situation when a grandparent wants that. Do we ignore their final wishes?
cappie
No, in my opinion you are not morally obligated to honor the wishes of your .relative/grandparent. Each person needs to be able to do what's best for everyone involved and themselves. In the opinion of the Church cremated remains (called "cremains") must receive a proper burial. Keeping ashes at home or scattering them on land or sea, even where legal, is inappropriate to the Church's deep reverence for the body as a place where the soul has resided.
