No one said anything about fair.

Your attitude is unbecoming.

If we switch, this is a detailed breakdown of what would happen to our current members and posts:

Forums

  • Forum ‘Categories’ are imported as a ‘Forum’ – You must manually configure the forum types for ‘category’ forum type after the import and recounts have finished.
  • Forum visibility such as moderator or admin only forums will be publicly visible after importing and you need to secure these manually.
  • ‘Link Forums’ will be imported as a standard forum without any URL redirect link.
  • ‘Locked Forums’ will be imported as like a normal open forum, again you can close/lock these via the forums panel in wp-admin and setting the forum attributes status to closed.
↑ Table of Contents ↑
Topics & Replies
  • Announcement and Sticky topics ‘topic status’ are not set during import, manually ‘stick’ any topics after import and recounts are complete. (See trac ticket #2126)
  • Custom BBCodes are not supported eg. [youtube] – You will have to manually change these yourself either before importing in Invision/IPB or after importing into bbPress using phpMyAdmin.
  • BBCodes not converted: [post=123]abc[/post] & [topic=456]def[/topic]
  • Smilies are rendered as images if contained in ‘code’ tags eg. <code> :)</code>
  • Smilies NOT converted: ,, ^_^,, -_-, <_ < &
  • No file attachments are imported.
  • All ‘Ordered Lists’ <ol> will be displayed as numerical lists.
  • You may find extra page breaks <br> and paragraph <p> elements in topics and replies and is less than ideal and is from the way the BBCodes are converted during the forum import conversion. You will find these primarily around ‘blockquotes’ and ‘lists’
  • If you are using bbPress â€˜Show Lead Topic’ some of the formatting will be broken, it has been converted correctly and is an issue with the content-single-topic-lead.php template, see trac # (Ticket to follow).
  • <span> elements seem to be a hit and miss at the moment, they render sometimes and sometimes not depending on the import. (not very helpful I know, still digging around this issue)
  • <img src=”http://example.com/file.jpg> are not currently enabled to be embedded inline in bbPress by default with topics and replies, everything was converted correctly and we just need to throw some switches and push some buttons before the next release of bbPress to make it work, watch this space.
↑ Table of Contents ↑
Users
  • Invision does not support user profile support for ‘First Name’ and ‘Last Name’ only ‘name’ and ‘display_name’ and ‘name’ will be the WordPress Username.
  • Existing passwords are converted during the import so users can login to WordPress/bbPress as soon as the import and recounts have finished.
  • Invision/IPB Moderators, Groups, Ranks are not imported, any users you wish to make ‘moderators’ or ‘keymasters’ you will have to assign these roles manually via the main WordPress Admin User panel (/wp-admin/users.php).
  • User ‘Favourites’, ‘Subscribed Topics’ or ‘Personal Messages (PM’s) are not supported or imported.
WHOA. HOLD UP: NO PMs? WHAT THE WHAT? How are moderators going to negotiate warnings? WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I WANT TO TELL SOMEONE TO JUMP OFF A BRIDGE WITHOUT GETTING A WARNING?

(I'm kidding, folks. CALM DOWN.)

dUSt, since the PM system will be trashed, can you assist users who wish to back those messages up? The archive option available to us tends to be incredibly buggy and doesn't usually get everything out.

Are you talking about personal messages? If so, I don't know of a way to access those.

The new forum would have private messages, and also the ability to have private groups.

If one wants to save their private messages, it is fairly easy. This way only works for one message at a time.

Go to messenger, open the pm/convo you want to save go to the last page, at the bottom of the page, and then click "Archive Conversation" at the right. It will then be sent to whatever email one associates with Phatmass.

I am aware of this, it also has major bugs. :P That's all.

What type of bugs, formatting? One could also do it manually. Copying and pasting every single post in a pm and pasting it into something like Word. But that's no fun.

Bugs like, I could have a 187 page long chain of PMs and it will just drop random pages from the HTML version it emails to me.

Oh, and here I have one that started back in April and has been going on-and-off until now, and the exported HTML only goes to May. Wat? That's not useful. I need all of it.

You'll probably have to save it manually. It makes sense why it would drop posts from a pm that is hundreds of pages long. The server probably cannot handle those calculations plus all the others from everyone else. Edited by KnightofChrist

I call bull, it's a SQL database, this shouldn't be that hard. Why in heck does it not handle this stuff properly? Unless it's just got a croutons-y code base, which I suppose is possible. I have tried the query multiple times now, and I have found that it does not in fact randomly drop posts. It just goes for a few pages and chops the remainder off.

This current phorum software is bloated and sloppy in my opinion--that's why I want to use something else.

I've never been happy with how phatmass.com and the phatmass phorum have always seemed to be two separate things. I've been trying to integrate them since we started over 10 years ago, with minimal success.

Even though the new forum setup may not have all the exact same features as this one, the one thing that WILL happen is the total and complete integration with the entire site. Essentially, phatmass.com will turn into a social network. One login, a phatmass.com profile page, user groups, an activity feed, designated phatmass blog authors, a forum, etc.

I'm leaning more and more towards one of these:

http://demo.herothemes.com/socialbuddy/

http://demo.ghostpool.com/buddy/

Of course, you must imagine those with the phatmass style applied.

That would be very nice dUSt. Still kinda stinks I'll have to hand-archive stuff that I want to keep, but I guess it could be worse. Maybe I can write a greasemonky script that'll do it for me. :P

I wouldn't worry about archiving your stuff. I will keep this phorum here no matter what happens , simply for SEO / search engine reasons. If we move to a new system I'd simply make this current phorum read-only.
