Kylie Spinelli
Hello! I was just looking for some input. Which missal do you recommend/ use at the Latin (Extraordinary) Mass? I'm looking for something that I can get on ebay or for a good price. Any suggestions? Thanks! God bless you all!! -Kylie
OnlySunshine
Hello! I was just looking for some input. Which missal do you recommend/ use at the Latin (Extraordinary) Mass? I'm looking for something that I can get on ebay or for a good price. Any suggestions? Thanks! God bless you all!! -Kylie I purchased an old copy of the St. Joseph's Sunday Missal at a used bookstore for only $3. I've not used it since I bought it but it's in really good condition. I would highly recommend that book because it is small and good for beginners. I'd sell you mine but I'm taking Latin in college and I thought it would be interesting to read. This is the one I have: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Saint-Joseph-Daily-Missal-Latin-English-Catholic-1961-/390636380437?pt=Antiquarian_Collectible&hash=item5af3be2115 I love that it has prayers and devotions in the back as well as colored pages of the Rosary and Stations of the Cross. It's a lovely little devotional book. :) Edited August 13, 2013 by MaterMisericordiae
Nihil Obstat
I use the Baronius Press missal. Really easy to use, and a beautiful book as well. The Angelus Press missal is supposed to be equally good. If I am not mistaken the Angelus Press missal can be purchased either leather bound, or a sort of leather-like cardboard binding, but overall I think leather binding is worth the slightly additional cost. The Baronius will run you around $50, same for the leather bound Angelus. A good investment, IMO, but it is a significant cost. I also think it is a lot of fun to search around for vintage missals on ebay and other sites. It is easy to find 1962 missals, but if you are into that sort of thing it is also really neat to have a 1954 missal for comparison, or even earlier. But they will not be as useful for you when you go to Holy Week ceremonies in particular. Also used missals are often quite a bit less expensive than new ones. Nihil Obstat
It is also easy to find vintage Sunday missals, as opposed to daily missals. If you normally just go to Sunday Mass, that can be a good way to save a bit of money. The books are quite a bit smaller. I have one lying around that belonged to my great aunt, and someone before her as well, so I am not entirely sure how old it is.
Pax_et bonum
If your family is Catholic, you should ask your parents or grandparents if they still have their old missals. I have my great-grandmother's Saint Joseph Daily Missal--it's the same one Mater linked to. It's really beautiful to be able to pray with the same missal my great-grandmother prayed with, and there's a few scribbled notes in it one of which claims that we're related to St. Gregory the Great by marriage. I don't know if that's true, but... :)

I was going to recommend the Baronius missal. It's the one I have. The Angelus has a slightly nicer format, in that the rubrics are only written on one page (one page is Latin and the other is English, for the Ordinary of the Mass), but it's also published by the SSPX and I figured that since they seemed to be pretty even in quality I would go with Baronius. Fr. Z has reviews of both of them: http://wdtprs.com/blog/2008/02/review-angelus-press-hand-missal/ (Angelus) and http://wdtprs.com/blog/2008/01/review-baronius-press-1962-hand-missal/ (Baronius) (I think that if you search you can find reviews he might have done on other missals too. Maybe.)
Gabriela
I use this one: http://www.catholicfreeshipping.com/laenbomi.html It's what the Canons in Charles Town, WV, have. It's super easy to follow for beginners. It has little pictures of what the priest will be doing at certain times so you learn how to follow. It also tells you when to sit, stand, kneel, etc.
Kylie Spinelli
Thanks for all the replies, you guys! I really appreciate it! Looking on eBay (I am very cheap and I really don't want to spend $60+ on a Missal...) I found these. Are these comparable/still accurate? I see that they're pre-Vatican II. Does that make a difference if it's EF Mass?? Nihil Obstat
Since those are post-1955 missals, you will not find major differences. Some differences, but mostly you will probably not notice. I believe the biggest difference would be that St. Joseph would not be included in the Canon. So perhaps make a note of it, because those prayers are said too quietly to hear, so you would not catch it. I am also not an expert on the differences between missals though.
