i don't really understand it, but one of my friends family is catholic, but they go to a methodist church (don't ask me why, i don't really know the reasons yet) but i've been told there's not too much of a difference. I know the obvious difference is the eucharist and mary, married ministers, but what different?

Actually, the Episcopalian Church is the American version of the Anglican Church ...

The United Methodist Church is descended from the ministries of the Wesley brothers, John and Charles. For a complete history, check out this link.

Ash Wednesday

Our local Methodist church proudly touts their lesbian pastor who lives with her partner. They recently got "married" in Oregon.

Yeah, wow! No, the UMC is vastly different than the Catholic Church. The fact that the pastors wear vestments and they recite a version of the Apostles Creed and the Glory Be is about the only thing I can think of that are even similar. I grew up in a liberal UMC.

The first and main difference is that they no longer belong to the Church that Jesus Christ handed to Peter.

They do not receive Jesus, in blood or body.

They are not in communion with THE Church.

Whether it be King Henry VIII's Anglican/ Epsicopal church or Methodist, Greek Orthodox, they all practice "worship" away from what Jesus gave us and taught us.

What I tell people is this, a protestant, which fully defined is Protesting the Catholic Church.

Their reasons for going to another church probably has more to do with the social aspect and much less with the religious aspect as Catholic's are to be in a Catholic Church each Sunday and be in full Communion with Christ.

Nothing is LIKE the Catholic Church. It is either a Catholic Church or it Protests the Catholic Church.

I'm currently Methodist, though I'm converting to Catholicism. Just so you know, the Methodist church does not condone homosexuality, but it seems that the leadership is unwilling to protest it too much right now.
