AnneLine
Well... there was a Henry VIII, but he had a falling out with the Pope.... Maybe he should choose something totally new.... something like Thomas? or uh.... John... or Robert... or Polydore (there are a whole bunch of other British martyrs, right?) (Says AnneLine very tongue-in-cheekly.... ;) ) Edited July 25, 2013 by AnneLine
Anselm
St Polydore Plasden! One of my favourite of the English Martyrs, for no other reason than his name... Actually the community I have applied to join has two canonised members amongst the English Martyrs. You know, the great-nephew of Duke Francis and third in line to the British throne in the Jacobite succession is Joseph of Lichtenstein - currently 18 and both born and educated in the UK! AnneLine
YES. Exactly. Maybe Polydore or Joseph or Francis? We can pray... we can dream.... he he he King Polydore has a VERY nice ring, actually.... and one needs to have 'many gifts' to be a good king.... And, well... then you are discerning with a good community, Anselm. And I am praying for you!. :)

Anselm
Hear hear! The English Martyrs were wonderful; it's awful that their witness was necessary but extraordinary that they gave their lives. When I was at university (in Oxford) I often marvelled at the martyrs that had lived and worked in the colleges and houses around me (including my own). Anselm
Here is a list of the saints and beati of the University of Oxford - as you can see, the vast majority are martyrs. http://newmansociety.blogspot.co.uk/p/oxford-universitys-saints.html
Vincent Vega
It's pretty much the standard assessment in the UK. Ah, well at least you haven't succumbed to the hive mind, then.
Anselm
Yes that;s right, he's acually an under-appreciated genius, I'm just too much of a sheep to realise it.
WillT
Actually I do not obey heretic rulers. I obey the laws of the United States that conform to the moral law. I don't obey laws contrary to right reason or the moral norm. Awesome! What form do you fill out for the IRS to exempt you from taxes that fund immoral activities of the government? abrideofChrist
I have been looking forward to Prince George's birth for a long time! I was hoping it would be a girl, but, I guess it is okay if it a boy after all. Probably more palatable to people who hang on to tradition for tradition's sake. But surely there aren't many of those interested in an elaborate and expensive system of figureheads which has been outmoded for centuries. Anselm
Probably not, but there are plenty who value a political system that provides a continuity and experience for decades at a time, that instills a great national pride and which brings in a much greater amount than it costs. MarysLittleFlower
I was expecting a light hearted thread when I clicked here... lol :) (I'm referring to the whole political discussion on the first 4 or so pages.. didn't read further).
