nikita92
Yuck! Such a old stodgy common unimaginative name to give this little one! I would have named him " Spencer George Luis Cambridge"!!!
Anselm
Using his late mother's maiden name as his christian name would be a little odd though, wouldn't it?
IgnatiusofLoyola
I'm VERY excited! (Although, I confess, I was hoping for a girl, now law in the UK now says that future King/Queen is the oldest child of whatever gender.) The name George didn't surprise me, since it was the name of the Queen's beloved father (and of the patron saint of England). However, I personally was hoping they would name the baby Phillip (after Prince Phillip, the Queen's husband). But then, for some odd reason, the British Royal Family didn't consult me. :joecool:

Anselm
[citation needed] Even ignoring the huge benefits in profit from tourism (which would be very hard to quantify), the Royal Household costs approximately £15m per annum to run, yet the Government receives approximately £250m income from the Crown Estates alone. http://moneyweek.com/what-the-royal-family-costs-53518/
Era Might
Just curious, are the royals privately wealthy or is their wealth from public funds?
Anselm
It's complicated, but essentially privately. They are (unsurprisingly) some of the largest landowners in the UK, but in the late 18th Century were making very little from land, so George III agreed with Parliament that in future all income from royal land (known as the Crown Estates) would go to Parliament in return for a fixed income for the Monarch. That was a good deal for George III at the time but nowadays the price of land means that Parliament (and therefore the country) actually makes a huge profit from the land owned by the Queen. PhuturePriest
Say all the bad stuff you want about any other King than King George VI. That is all.

There's been a Queen for a very long time, and it's time for a King to look pretty on the throne for a while.
