southern california guy
I want to put a Caribbean style covered porch, with an outdoor kitchen, on the back of my house behind my dining room. But I want to use fireproof weatherproof materials -- like aluminum, fiber cement, and metal roofing. Does anybody have any recommendations for the structural beams? Do I use something like "alumawood"? Or aluminum that I cover with fiber cement? Does anybody every do that?? I want something that will be relatively safe from fire. I understand that many fires enter the house from the soffit and I wouldn't want the cover to be place for a fire to start. My backyard is relatively small with a very steep hill that I plan to cover with colorful tropicals and palm trees, maybe with a waterfall and a little pond in the corner. So I would want to use something that would not mildew, and could be washed off with a hose. I am residing my house with fiber cement .
