Just print more dollars. Then we have more money! What could possibly go wrong with that idea, right?

I'd much rather bring in the Germans.  A high-performing economy with a strong social safety net.

Bring in the Israelis. Nobody messes with the Israelis.

Seriously, though, that wouldn't bring the crime down. It'd nip terrorism in the bud. But not crime.

But seriously, Detroit needs leadership. Not politicians, but leaders who are rooted in the communities and draw on the grassroots leaders that, no doubt, already exist. Saw a good comment somewhere that Miami was once a wasteland...look where Miami is today. Granted, Detroit doesn't have the same tourist attraction, but you have to figure out what you can leverage to start building, while addressing the systemic problems.

You can't run a city where so many houses are boarded up. All the money left town. My first thought was if we are covering all the farm land for suburbs, we should pull down all the falling down, abandoned houses and let sharecroppers farm it.

I thought I read something recently about Detroit starting up a bunch of community gardens and other inner-city farming cooperatives. I guess maybe it wasn't Detroit...
