Putting Our Dog To Sleep

Our beloved Lucy is almost 15 years old and we've had her since she was 6 months old.  Our lives have been changed for the better because of this sweet dog but she's old and not the same anymore.  The last few months have been really difficult because she is bowel incontinent sometimes which means we've had to clean up messes quite a bit.  If you had asked me or my family a year ago if we were ready to put her to sleep, we'd say no and get teary eyed.  However, we've made our peace with it.  I've tried to explain to my mom that our dog is ashamed when she has an accident, even though she can't control it.  She's lost all the feeling in her back legs and it makes it very difficult for her to stand.  My mom said she tripped this morning (which she has been doing a lot lately) and she was worried our dog would break her hip or legs.  Before that happens, she decided it is time to put her down.  Though it will be sad, we are ready.  This is something I've been thinking about for a while, especially since we are leaving to go to California at the end of the month for my mom's doctor's appointment.  We were extremely worried that Lucy would go downhill because she gets anxious and needs medication every 8 hours and another every 12 hours.  Plus, she needs to be let outside for potty breaks every few hours.  It's making it really difficult for me to find a job because I have to stay home and care for her.

Please pray for my family.  My mom is planning to call the vet tomorrow or Friday to see what the earliest time is that we can have Lucy euthanized.  We are hoping that the vet can come to our house like my uncle's vet did for his dog so Lucy is not anxious or frightened and she will able to be in a comfortable environment so it is peaceful when she goes.
