BarbTherese
I just don't see it that way at all. I have said this statement to someone before and they knew exactly what I meant because she said, "well you should take some credit." But the idea is all "credit" goes to God for who I am if indeed I am being perceived as "good" or "talented" etc. etc. for only God is "good" as Our Lord tells us in Scripture. Today we often believe our goodness our talents, etc. come from us and they do not. We want to be praised and complimented to excess. We are a very narcissistic culture. But as St. Therese said, "Everything is grace." If any glory is to be given it should be to God alone. So, I stand by that statement. :) Good post! And CCC your story about wanting to throw the lady on your desk for her "good deed for the day"... rotfl Glad you enjoyed it lol. I guess meant to type something like "She would've thrown her feet up on my desk, (As if I had a desk)." She had done her one good deed for the day and, therefore, was all done helping me or any other employee for the remaining hours of the shift. Where I wanted to point out (but didn't) that if you were the best of the best you will sin 7 times before you call it a night/or it hits midnight, but only 1 good deed and you think that balances it out?!? I didn't want to throw her on the desk that sounds sketchy but throwing her like a WWE superstar was prolly not far from my mind. That lady was such a stuck up snob. Wait isn't that kinda what this thread is about!?! Goal achieved I guess.

BG45
While the Hypnotoad makes a compelling argument by virtue of being the Hypnotoad... Personally, I think if you're worried about being seen as 'holier than thou', you're probably humble enough in acting out your faith that others will not see you as such. If they do, that's more their thing than yours and no one can really control it. Ditto with people thinking you're some sort of saint. We've all fallen short of the glory of God. Anyhow, love Lilla's suggestion of at least silently praising God, since it is He who deserves the glory, not we fallible mortal men and women. And like BM said, be friendly to others and live joyfully. Far too often, people associate Christians with bitterness, spite, and anger; if you're posting is anything to go by, you don't seem to have an abundance of those things at all, and by just living life with some charity a smile, and maybe a helpful hand, you're doing great things to share the Good News. (Sorry if none of that really helped!)
ACS67
"All Glory to God", you might as well be saying "Oh dont compliment me, I am just doing God's Will" Or..."Don't compliment me, I'm just cooperating with God's grace, and so can you! Please God it is He you see and not me." :) All glory to God!
Anastasia13
So someone please help me. I feel like people see me as this "holy person" or whatever because I try to live my faith. I'm concerned people see me as "holier than thou" because I go to daily mass a lot and stuff. So some people see me like that. But then, there are those who pretty much think I'm a saint. AHHH! no I've failed pretty miserably, God has brought me out of that so that today I can say I am no longer stuck in the awful situation I was in a year ago, but I am pretty far from perfect. People say stuff to me that they admire me or whatever, and when I say stuff like, well I don't judge others because I've failed more than they have, when you consider the amazing upbringing and all the graces i've had in my life, compared to these kids who drink party and have sex, but were brought up like that and therefore imho have little guilt in it, then people think I'm just being oh so humble and oh she's so holy or whatever. But i mean it! I can't go around telling everyone I meet the story of my complete failures, I mean its completely humiliating, and certainly not something I want public, but what do I do???? Just be real. Don't care so much what other people think. Either they love you as you are and are willing to get to know yow, or what they think doesn't matter much more than what they are paying you or feeding you. Just be real, and if that's hard, offer it up to God.
