I gotta go to sleep, and I've posted way too much on this, so I'll just close by saying that I assume the jury did their diligence and found Zimmerman not guilty of a crime under the law, but that is a separate issue from his moral and social responsiblity for the situation. The minute he decided to play cops and robbers and put his nose where it didn't belong, he set the stage for a completely unnecessary situation. The right to walk down the street at ANY hour is not superseded by the right to bear arms. Period.

Probably the fact that he was missing(zimmerman didnt know where he was) for several minutes, during which Martin's own girlfriend testified that Martin said he had reached his father's back yard, his destination, several hundred feet away from the actual confrontation and shooting, at which point she testified that he was going back out there to look for Zimmerman, at which point he confronted Zimmerman.

 

But Im sure Martin's black girlfriend was part of some white conspiracy to stick it to the black man, so she lied about that whole thing, and the police dispatcher just edited in all those timestamps in Zimmerman's call after he lost track of Martin.

 

This was the accepted sequence of events in the court, supported by a fair amount of evidence, and none against it. It makes sense with all the witness testimony and all the police doing the investigation had no problem with it. 

 

I know I have pointed this out to you before Hasan, a few times, so Im wondering why you are choosing to forget it each time. I've seen you on chat, last time i checked you werent swimming around a small fishbowl with a toy treasure chest to keep you company.

Regardless of the events prior to the actual shooting, this case just shows that you have the right to defend yourself using potentially mortal force, if you reasonably fear for your life/ are being attacked.

 

Walking down the street got Trayvon followed. Probably not for any real good reason on Zimmerman's part. It didnt get him killed.

 

Attacking someone, and then sitting on them beating them, and allegedly threatening their life is what got Trayvon killed.

The actual shooting is a matter for the courts. The rest is not. It's like saying the government has no responsibility for riots, as though people just riot out of the blue. Doesn't mean riots are good, but government has responsibility for riots throughout history.

He was a troublemaker at school. But when young people die its a tragedy, troublemaker or not.

I know people don't like profiling. But there are people in the FBI who have it as their exclusive job description. It isn't necessarily racist. Stereotypes exist because the human brain wants to be efficient and it likes organizing information into patterns it can easily recognize. It's an evolutionary adaptation. The prosecution said it was illegal for Zimmerman to profile, but that's not true. People fitting that description (young, black, male, hooded, not from the neighborhood) had been committing crimes in his neighborhood.  He was doing his job when he called the cops. Not doing his job when he got out of the car. A stupid overreach. Not an illegal overreach.

White people are not rarely criminals. Most white people are criminals, because most people are  criminals of one kind or another. American people have a lot of psychological stress, because we fetishise the law but at the same time we are disgusted by obeisance.

 

Maybe what you meant to say is that black people are disproportionately involved in violent crime. That is statistically true. (They are also disproportionately poor and under-served as well)

Yeah. I have heard people say this verdict means it is now "open season" on black teenagers and young adults. That surprised me because it has been open season on black teenagers and young adults for a long time.

 

Black death is not considered important until a lighter skinned individual gets involved.
