Ccd Teachers

Is a catechist a teacher for RCIA, or a teacher of the faith in general? When the deacon mentioned that almost a dozen CCD teachers were needed, he didn't mention anything about training. The closest thing he said was that if anyone lacks confidence or isn't completely sure about a teaching to consult one of the deacons or fathers.

In my diocese, there is a separate track for teaching RCIA. I have already taken the 5 tracks needed in my diocese for CCD, so there is an additional track for RCIA. That said, I was teaching CCD while I was getting certified, and the DRE and Father had no issue with that.

I get the feeling that certification is the ideal, but they will take anyone well versed, grounded, and living in the faith who comes to them to help.

I totally think you should do it. It is a wonderful challenge and responsibility. FWIW, I Think you would do great!

As a DRE I intentionally remove catechists whose children in their classes are attached to them instead of to Christ. If children are crying and parents leaving the parish because you personally are not teaching, something has gone terribly wrong. I am sorry to be blunt, but that is the truth of it. A great catechist would be horrified that children have built that kind of cult of personality around them.

 

Frist off, what HCF Said. I did not give alot of info because of this very reason.  I did my job and  I often see kids come and go. I usually didn't even remember the kid the following year. I think it is an unfortunate sitchuation that happened. I was upset that parents left and I was horrified that the kids did that but I did not know that these kids were closer to me than christ until I stopped teaching.
