Pax domini...

So i thought i would share that when i began to stray from the truth and became a regular pot smoker, the first albums i was blessed with, and i say blessed because eventualy i ended feasting on gangster raps that where way worse. The original 2 albums in my fall that God led me to where far more gracious. These two albums where By a reggae outfit called Big mountain and the two albums where Unity and Wake up. So anyhow that me over with, i was wondering whether any of you have ever gotten into any reggae and if so what artists and albums, and where these artists believers,or did they come across as believers?

"Baby I Love Your Way" by Big Mountain was one of my favorites. Being of E. Indian descent, I used to blast Apache Indian...lol. And then I also liked some songs by Shaggy, Super Cat, Beenie Man, and Inner Circle that were very (ahem) inappropriate, now that I think about it.

While I don't listen to the last few artists I mentioned, I still listen to reggae: Bob Marley, Matisyahu, some songs by Rebelution, Gentleman, SOJA, and Root Down. We need some Catholic reggae!

There are secular songs that I like for the kernels of truth in them. Earlier in my walk of faith, I had to separate from every form of secular music… but eventually, very gradually, God gave it back to me--He shows me how to find him in everything---that is not inappropriate (for lack of a better word...lol).

Have you ever heard of Christiafari <sp?>?

Haven't heard of Christafari, i will check it out now. I can't listen to most secular music, it makes me violently ill, unsure why i was posting old songs i used to listen to in the music forum.

On the secular music bit, i'm not a snob christian i can talk to and relate with just about anyone on the street at a cafe or wherever, but i won't deliberately support music and movies/t.v shows. that promote sex, drugs, violence and a whole host of other sins and not all as in your face as sex, drugs and violence. I feel really bad about what i posted on the music thread, unsure why i did that, trying to be tough or something, whatever it was it was stupid.

Don't worry about it Tab. I don't think that your postings in the music thread glorify sin but perhaps for you they could be an avenue of temptation. Perhaps you should stick to the Christianized or family-friendlier versions of the genres of music that you like--- it could be a necessary thing for you at this point in time. I think you should get a spiritual director or a regular confessor and run this past him. it will help you to grow in honesty with yourself and root any possible scruples.  Spiritual direction did wonders for me.
