PhuturePriest
Disney movies? Really? :x Disney movies are my favorite. No joke. My sister and I watch them all the time. I even have a favorite Disney Princess. Edited July 13, 2013 by FuturePriest387
DiscerningCatholic
I would like to know why "Girl Scouts" is that list. <_< :lame:
Norseman82
Why isn't "Catholic boys/men" on the list (except for the reference to crushes on priests)? Seems like today's priorities are really messed up.
MithLuin
Well, any list like that is bound to have a few misses, but some of the choices are likely spot on for a lot of Catholic women. For music, they list both Mumford and Sons (a popular, current band whose music has religious themes) and Matt Maher...both of whom I like, coincidentally. But as one is a CCM artist and one is a pop artist, they have a chance of people liking at least one if they're from a certain demographic. For movies, we get Disney movies, which are insanely popular with many, many different groups of people, and... The Sound of Music, which was easily the most popular movie of the 60s (and features a Catholic nun), and... Sister Act. I'd say that it's again likely that if you know some Catholic girls, they're likely to like at least one of those, though the choices do fall a bit flat for me. But something like 'The Bells of St. Mary's' was likely deemed too old and not known by the younger generation. For authors, we get Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and C.S. Lewis. I would think that going outside the Inklings would be wiser, but it's true that Lewis' apologetics and Narnia books are extremely popular, much more so than Chesterton (whom I prefer). So while there are better examples of specifically Catholic literature out there, these authors have such a wide audience and are particularly lauded by many Catholics...hence their inclusion on the list. For saints...we get Mary. No complaints there. Why are the Girl Scouts on the list? Likely because all the Catholic girls the author of the list knew happened to be Girl Scouts when they were younger. I never was, but my sister was in both Girl Scouts and 4H for a few years.
