HisChildForever
I don't think the song is very clever. Like "Born this Way." I know this will sound weird, but it reminds me of Christian music that's so overtly Christian it comes off as lame. I think it's far more clever to get your message across without being so painfully obvious about it. Use metaphor or something.
CrossCuT
Sometimes you want to be obvious. There are many ways to convey an idea...not just metaphors. I dont think it was the artists intention to communicate inconspicuously...he wants people to know how it is! I think a lot of the time people view these things with a lens that coated in a way that filters out any positives that might be there (I say this in the most unassuming way). Its the classic situation where one will unconsciously remember only certain things that coincide with a bias. I dont remember what the psychological term for it is, but thats what I feel like is happening here. If you just read the lyrics or listen to the song with an open heart and mind, I think youll see the positive message there.

I've heard the song multiple times on the radio and yes I took the time to read the lyrics in the OP. I'm really indifferent to the song. But like I said in my previous post, I'm not too keen on painfully obvious lyrics. It's not necessarily the content of the song but the way the message is presented. Just like I don't like songs that are essentially a sung story, like what you might find in country music.

Nihil Obstat
Who's Macklemore? I have been asking myself the exact same thing for several months now. Honestly, I do not want to know the answer.

Luigi
Conservatives did support and defend the anti-sodomy laws which were in effect until 2002. Almost everybody in almost every culture on earth through almost all of time has opposed sodomy. And they didn't do that simply because they were conservative. They did it because they thought it was wrong (probably various reasonings as to how-why it is wrong). Conservatives aren't conservative just to piss you off. And they aren't less-than-human because they piss you off either.

Chesterton would disagree with this line of thinking lol.

Ice_nine
Almost everybody in almost every culture on earth through almost all of time has opposed sodomy. er, I'm not sure this is true even with my scant knowledge of world history. Greece and Rome jump out at me, I suspect I could find more with 10 minutes of googling.

Greece and Rome jump out at me, I suspect I could find more with 10 minutes of googling. Right about Greece and Rome. Homosexuality has existed in lots of cultures - but Greece and Rome are only two cultures, and the period in which homosexuality was accepted was rather brief compared to their entire histories. And even when they were "accepted," they were never condoned by society in the form of marriage. And one or two examples - or even fifteen examples - are nothing compared to the norm lived by most people in most cultures over most time. It takes an incredible amount of hubris - such as can only be found in the most decadent societies; those completely out of touch with nature, history, and other contemporary societies; those that consider themselves enlightened enough to finally see the Truth that humanity has misunderstood all these centuries - to think that the Truth can be changed by the passing of a couple of laws in a couple of societies.
