Another Dairy-free Thread

Also, if you want to have a good substitute for cream cheese, I used to be a vegan and bought Tofutti 'Better than Cream Cheese!' and it was really good on bagels.  I couldn't really tell a difference.  They also make sour cream substitutes.

Also, ice cream bars.  Mmmm, they were good.

I can't have dairy or soy, and my husband is allergic to almonds (well, they trigger his asthma). I use rice milk in most things, and coconut milk when making Indian food. I have been able to adapt most things. I even made a creamy pasta bake the other day. It wasn't perfect (first attempt), but not bad. I was putting goat cheese on pizza before I figured out that Leo can't have goat, either.

Oh, and get Earth Balance soy free.

I've never tried the ice cream bars by Tofutti but I wouldn't doubt they were good.  ;)

I have tried the So Delicious brand of ice cream sandwiches which were REALLY good.

Chestertonian

Anyone else thought the title referred to Dairygirl?

Yup. Although it's safe to assume that it will be a dairy-free thread. I've only ever seen her post on the Debate Table.

Almond milk is always suggested to me.

Good thing I am now allergic to almonds <_<

I miss almond butter on rice cakes :(

Great thread!  I am going to have to do a little research.  I love to grow all sorts of fruit and I dream of the great homemade ice cream I could make, but I never even thought of making dairy free ice cream.  If anybody knows of a good recipe I would love to get it!! :woot:   Then I wouldn't have to worry about forgetting to take lactaid.

I think I'm going to have to make some ice cream -- strictly for research of course. :smile4:
