I bought some of that "SO" dairy free coconut milk vanilla ice cream stuff yesterday, and it was pretty good. But since I know we have some dairy-free pham, I was wondering if any of you know of any good dairy free substitute foods or recipes or anything. Amppax Posted July 10, 2013 Share Posted July 10, 2013 I used to have an allergy to proteins (or something, it was never really explained to me) and I couldn't have any dairy. I grew up on Silk soymilk. It was good, although really sweet, it takes a while to get used to the sweetness. MissScripture Posted July 10, 2013 Share Posted July 10, 2013 We use almond milk or coconut milk in baking. Go with almond if you don't want a coconut flavor in something, though. It may still have a slight almond taste, but much more neutral than coconut. Or like my husband said, we started making "vegan cheese" out of cashews. That can also be used for sour cream, also. We don't do anything soy based, so that has ruled out some other alternatives, but that can mess with my cycle and it can be a problem for people with a protien intolerance because the protiens are similar (at least that was how I have understood it). When it flares up, I make good use of the Kosher labeling... and use some of the dairy-free Kosher recipies. It's so frustrating that the dairy stuff is in SO MUCH of our food....
