beatitude
Do I create strange threads? Yes, and that's the only way for Mr Hank. anyway, this thread is not about diagnosing me... How does the Church distinguish between just hearing voices and hearing God's voice (like the saint in the video)? No one is trying to diagnose you. However, I have had a couple of friends who used to post stuff online similar to what you're posting - oblique questions about mental illness and sin and religious experience, vaguely worded, without any context or reason for asking. They would then take the well-intentioned replies of strangers and use them to prove that they were going to hell - or, in one person's case, to prove that she didn't need professional help. ("God doesn't want me to.") This is why, when I see someone making multiple threads about psychological symptoms and asking 'what does the Church think', again and again, I'm hesitant to go along with it. I don't know what I might be feeding.
Annie12
So, to sum it all up, if you are hearing voices consult a spiritual director. And, if the voices result from a medical condition, seek a psychologist. This is because even if you think you know what is going on, we can never be sure without seeking the advice of professionals. CatholicsAreKewl
Why not go to both? Religious experts aren't meant to be psych experts and vice versa.
