Benedictus
I was just admitted to the 4-year university for a Bachelor's in Health Administration. I'm looking at my degree requirements and I did not take 2 years of foreign language in high school so it is required that I take 2 semesters of language in college. I tried to take Spanish previously and I HATE it. I don't know what it is about the Spanish language but I have no interest in trying to take it again. Thus, I have these options: American Sign Language Beginning French Beginning German Beginning Latin Chinese is definitely not on my list of interests so I am not even counting the Beginning Chinese (I can't even imagine how difficult that would be anyway with all the symbols). I'd appreciate any feedback as to which is a good language and easier to take. I have a natural interest in European languages (besides Spanish) so I'm leaning towards taking French, German, or Latin. I've always thought French would be really interesting and then I saw that my school offers Latin so I was wondering if that was easier to learn. Thanks in advance! German is easier for English speakers, at least at the start. There are other countries where German is also used. The grammar gets harder as it progresses and it takes more time than French. But you'll then be able to learn Dutch, and related languages, afterwards far more easier. Latin - it helps youunderstand language constrcust better. But I wouldn't bother unless you're considering a church vocation or as a classics professor etc ASL - you may find it helpful, depending on any work or ministry you might want to do. French - I find it tricky and I'm not keen on France but there are plenty of other places to speak it. I'd go with a language that has a culture, country, people or similar that you like above all else. It'll help with motivation and will make it seem easier. Luigi
I think she took Latin. I remember her asking for prayers as tests were looming. But I think she's doing well with it. Besides, her screen name is Latin! BTW, Mater, I used to know an Irish Sister of Mercy - of happy memory - who used "Sweet Mother of Mercy!" and "Holy Mother of Justice!" as exclamations. Every time I see your screen name, I remember her. Edited July 29, 2014 by Luigi
OnlySunshine
Which was chosen? Have you stuck with it? I had to take two consecutive semesters of a foreign language which were completed in Fall 2013 and Spring 2014. I took Beginning Latin I and II. I got an "A" in the first and a "B" in the second. ;)
