arfink
The Vaitcan website has finally, finally, finally, been brought into something resembling modernity. The parchment background is still there (arg!) but they have another box behind the text at least, so you can read it. They have sorta-working social media buttons. They have a gasp! readable and printable PDF DOWNLOAD!!1! Now all they need is e-reader formats... I think I was actually more excited about that than I was about the encyclical. I should read it later today maybe.
Amppax
Modernism is a condemned heresy. :|
Brother Adam
That surprised me as well. Frankly it's about time. They should hire Carson Weber to do their web design.
qfnol31
There are many in the Church who have begun to realize who important it is to use digital media properly if they want the Church to remain vital in today's world. That was much of the thinking (believe it or not) behind Pope Francis' election. It's also the big push behind the "New Evangelization" that my bishop speaks about quite frequently. arfink
Unfortunately they have a lot of catching up to do with regards to digital distribution. By adopting strict copyright enforcement while simultaneously failing to make their online version truly platform-agnostic they are not keeping pace with modern online distribution. A much better approach to protecting their work would be to use Creative Commons, to avoid causing concern and injuring lay people who want to be promoters of the faith.
