BG45
Also Pope Francis released his first encyclical today "Lumen Fidei" or "Light of Faith". And Benedict XVI joined Francis to consecrate the Vatican to St. Michael the Archangel. “Faith is not a light which scatters all our darkness, but a lamp which guides our steps in the night and suffices for the journey.†- Lumen Fidei
KnightofChrist
Woot! The consecrating of Vatican to St. Michael is also good. Just wish some of the pre-Vatican II Popes could get some of that fast track to Sainthood love, like Pope Pius XII. OnlySunshine
I prayed HARD that Bl. JP2 would be canonized! He is my patron saint this year. Now I'm wondering if his canonization will take place on my birthday which is later this month on the 26th. How AMAZING would that be?!? :woot:
Noel's angel
Pope John Paul II's canonisation just looks like canonisation by popular vote.
Noel's angel
Wait...it looks like John XXIII actually WAS done by popular vote. Go figure..."Everyone loved the guys, let's make 'em Saints.'

Apotheoun
As you toe the line with criticizing the Holy Father, would you care to perhaps provide proof instead of just sarcasm? I think Noel is referring to Pope Francis' approval of the vote taken on the issue of canonizing John XXIII in the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Amppax
I believe Bl. John XXIII is being canonized without the usual second miracle.
Apotheoun
I believe Bl. John XXIII is being canonized without the usual second miracle. That's correct. His canonization was approved by Pope Francis after a vote of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints was taken.
Dr. Bombay
If I'm not mistaken, canonization is an exercise of the infallible charism of the Church and as such must be assented to by all the faithful, even if one doesn't personally agree. In any event, these men are presumably being canonized for demonstrable lives of heroic virtue, not necessarily for their administrative prowess as Pontiffs of the Universal Church, which may or may not have been lacking. If one doesn't care for a particular saint for whatever reasons, one is not required to ask for their intercession.
