ToJesusMyHeart
Most excellent read! http://themattwalshblog.com/2013/06/29/an-open-letter-to-wendy-davis/ Excerpt: "Anyway, well Governor Perry will be reintroducing the bill you derailed. Stupid son of a gun just won’t get off his “we shouldn’t murder sentient human children†bandwagon. I hope you stand again and do whatever you can to stop him. Congratulations. If you are successful, more children will die as a direct result of your actions. You must be so proud."
arfink
I don't know. Sarcasm is nice sometimes I guess. I agree with him, but pouring such acid on our fellow human beings, even if they support horrible evil, doesn't seem right to me. missionseeker
I don't either. But perhaps I am too soft for this conversation. The problem is not that you are too soft. The problem is that his article at the very least verges on the edge of extreme disdain and utmost uncharitableness. It goes past "admonishing the sinner" straight to mocking the sinner. Which goes against all cornerstones of Christian teaching. It makes sense that it makes you would feel uncomfortable by it.

Ice_nine
It's a whole lot of effort to put into something that will accomplish nothing.
Chestertonian
You hear that TJMH? We're heathens now because we like a letter that strongly condemns infanticide.
arfink
You hear that TJMH? We're heathens now because we like a letter that strongly condemns infanticide. I didn't say you were a heathen. In fact, all I managed to say was that the sarcasm in that letter made me uncomfortable.

Amppax
I agree with mission. It's one thing to condemn abortion. That's not what this letter does, it mocks her. If he'd written a strongly worded letter that wasn't sarcastic, I would love it. It's easy when are passionate about something to want to belittle and mock our opponents. I've been guilty of this here on PM more times than I can count. It doesn't make it right. Someone once told me that our real opponent is Satan, not Obama, or Wendy Davis, or anyone else really. We shouldn't forget that they are a person with dignity, and the potential to be a saint. Condemning them as demonic, which I've seen a lot of pro-lifers do (not necessarily here) or mocking and belittling them, like this letter, does nothing, in my opinion, to change hearts and advance a culture of life. That's my 2 cents.
franciscanheart
You hear that TJMH? We're heathens now because we like a letter that strongly condemns infanticide. Getting emotional and sarcastic because someone said they didn't like something snide that you DID like, is maybe not the best way to have an adult conversation.
