A Question Concerning Harry Potter

Still awaiting an answer on my Star Wars question.

Maybe Harry Potter came too late into my life, since I never really wanted to be a wizard, but you can bet your sweet bippy I wanted to be a Jedi.  I remember 10-year-old me, fresh from seeing The Empire Strikes Back at the theater, trying my hardest to will a balled pair of socks up into my hand.  They never budged,  It was a hard lesson about the difference between reality and make-believe.

The differences between the Force and Harry Potter's magic are mostly superficial.  So why don't we see the same arguments leveled against Star Wars that we do Harry Potter?

Because Harry Potter uses wands and cool pointy hats and capes. Duh.

Star Wars is actually philosophically worse than Potter, because it's pretty similar to a lot of Eastern philosophy.  Becoming "one" with the Force, Only Sith deal in absolutes,  etc.  Harry Potter is about choosing to be good, the evils of bigotry, and the power of love and sacrifice. :)   But Star Wars has lightsabers and the Force instead of wands and magic, so it's automatically okay.   :hehe2:

This is relevant to my interests.

Precisely. It also completely replaces God with the Force and Midichlorians. It also says anger is bad, even though the Church teaches there is just anger.

No, Star Wars is SUPER Catholic! At least, according to my high school religion teacher (one of them anyway).  Yay syncretistic relativism! :|

I'm with you, but what do you mean when you say the Sith only deal in absolutes?

It's a (patently ridiculous) quote made by Obi-Wan to Anakin in Revenge of the Sith.

Huh.  I guess Jesus Christ is a Sith.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence.  Nothing to see here.  Move along, move along.

Sith are cooler.

Darth Vader would disagree.  In fact, Darth Vader would probably say Sith are hot.  On fire.  Practically melting in fact.

Been a while since we had a good Harry Potter thread.

That's all right. These things gotta happen every five years or so, ten years. Helps to get rid of the bad blood. Been ten years since the last one. You know, you gotta stop them at the beginning. Like they should have stopped Hitler at Munich, they should never let him get away with that, they was just asking for trouble. You know, Mike, we was all proud of you being a hero and all. Your father too.

Yeah. I guess we'll have to wait a while longer for one of those.
