I think I can explain.

 

I put in a rule a while back to lock threads that reach 1000 replies. When I implemented the rule, the phorum showed 20 posts per page. Therefore, 50 pages = 1000 replies.

 

Current mods may have correctly assumed at that time that threads were locked after reaching 50 pages. A few weeks ago I changed the "posts per page" to 15. If the reply limit rule was assumed to be pages rather than posts, it makes sense to me that a current mod would lock a thread around 750 posts, as that would be 50 pages.

 

Either way, 750 or 1000, it should be locked. No thread that long has done a very good job of being concisely productive.
