And I dislike the "next people will marry their pets" argument. It only harms the more rational argument of marriage being open up to polygamy and near relatives--which is very realistic.

Yeah I don't think the pets and marriage thing will happen because pets cannot sign a legal contract. I do however think it's entirely possible for bestiality to become less taboo and perhaps decriminalized. I mean, Singer is actually taken seriously in the world of academia. If that continues his views are going to eventually "trickle down" to us vulgar plebeians. And that's actually one of his less scary views (killing disabled babies in his book is totes legit)

I don't see why polygamy shouldn't be legal if gay marriage is. And I don't even mean this as a "slippery slope" argument, just seems like common sense to me.

I agree polygamy is a given. My next slippery slope are the relative crowd and man/boy live crowd. I saw a show about brother/sister and father/daughter marriages.

Not every human being can sign a legal contract. In the past people who could not write simply placed a 'mark' (often an X or + in Christian countries) on documents.
