dUSt
Moreover, for those of us with same sex attraction who are trying to obey the teaching of the Church on that issue, the picture might constitute temptation or scandal. I can't say I'm impressed. I could only hope and dream that a picture of me and Apollo would cause any type of temptation for anybody. That would be completely awesome. ToJesusMyHeart
So I'm trying to figure this out. The original post shows two men spooning on a couch. I take it that one of these men is the forum owner and that he posted this picture. He said that this is his response to the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday in U.S. v. Windsor (the DOMA decision on same sex marriage). As best I can tell, he is saying, in effect, "Look how ridiculous same sex affection is." Well, that's begging the question, isn't it? Many of us find it quite normal. It does not appear patently absurd and laughable to us. Moreover, for those of us with same sex attraction who are trying to obey the teaching of the Church on that issue, the picture might constitute temptation or scandal. I can't say I'm impressed. Props.

To Jesus Through Mary
My answer are in blue I do not think the homosexual lifestyle is a joke. It is a serious sin, and we should be doing what we can to discourage it and convert sinners. That is not the issue here. The issue is "how"? Let me know your strategy for fighting this sin. Condemnation?Complete rejection of anything "gay"? Why is your method for battling this sin better than mine? Why do you consider my method of using humor the wrong method? I have never converted an enemy, but I have converted many friends. Who is our enemy you speak of? The devil? I don't think he's laughing at my picture. I think he see's a man who welcomes all people, dedicates uncountable hours to an unpaid ministry, and willing to use his God given talents and dysfunctional personality to convert the world in the best way he knows how--and I think the devil is very afraid. As he should be. I respect your opinion, and admire your faith, but please try not to condemn mine. No, condemnation is not my method. I have several friends and a brother who are in the homosexual lifestyle. They know I do not condemn them, but love them immensely but still do not approve of their life style. One of my friends is struggling very hard to live chaste. It is an extremely painful, misunderstood, and heavy cross to carry. "My" method, is not "my" method. I just try and love, pray, and do penance for them. As for the humor- why not take a couple cracks at abortion also then? If that is a method of converting. For the record, I do not condemn your faith- I have said nothing of your faith. Look at all the hard work you have put into an awesome tool of evangelization (before it was cool ;) ) I may disagree with you on this one thing, but overall I enjoy your humor and am thankful for this forum. And as you said in a previous post, you aren't "holier-then-thou" but just a dude trying to be holy and I respect that. This is not meant to be a personal attack. Do you guys want an apology for a failed joke? Should I delete the thread? Do I need to start including in my daily prayers that God grant me the ability to take things more seriously? I'm at a loss here peeps. Help me out. A particular joke may be funny to some people and not to others. Unless the joke is truly offensive I see no reason to apologize for it. The joke at the beginning of this thread is rather puerile, but who hasn't made that type of joke at some time or another. People should just move on as far as the joke is concerned. As far as the topic (i.e., gay marriage) is concerned, Catholics should inform their consciences on the issue and affirm the Church's doctrine unequivocally. dUSt
If nothing else, this thread has been immensively productive, as I just learned a new word. pu·er·ile [pyoo-er-il]adjective 1. of or pertaining to a child or to childhood. 2. childishly foolish; immature or trivial: a puerile piece of writing. This describes me exactly! Seriously!!! Where has this word been my entire life!

This describes me exactly! Seriously!!! Where has this word been my entire life! To learn new things is cool. "Puer" is Latin for "boy" referring to a small male child. Thus the English word and definition of "childish." :)
