AnneLine
Continuing on with our recap..... Tues July 2 Rest day at Estella-Lizarra Traveled __ kms (__miles) (Rest Day) QUOTE FROM NUNSENSE: Day 8 is a rest day for me and I am still here in Estella-Lizarra at an Internet cafe. I am much more rested and cooler, but the temps are expected to be in the 30s plus for the rest of the month so what can I do? Below is an interactive map of Estella-Lisarra, so you can explore the city while P. Nunsense rests a bit.... http://www.redjuderias.org/google/google_maps_print/estella-en.html http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Estella-Lizarra,_Iglesia_de_San_Miguel_01.JPG p. Nunsense should be heading for Los Arcos and Logrono next. Keep her in your prayers.... weather reports say the heat will be increasing.
AnneLine
Nunsense.... I really liked the suggestion from CatherineM about the frozen wash cloths. And, if you don't have access to ice, just wetting a towel and putting it over your head may help. It can cool you as it dries. Has helped me in the past.... Be sure to drink plenty of water. Another thought (and I know you really won't like this one....) -- I know that U.S. Civil War soldiers often marched at night and rested during the day when they had long marches in hot weather. You might want to at least consider some of the time leaving before the sun comes up as a way of avoiding some of that heat. AND... don't hesitate to take those extra 'rest' days as you need them. You need to take care of your body, and you need the time to process the Camino in your soul. Be safe, and pray for us as we pray for you.... AccountDeleted
Day 9 Estella-Lizarra to Los Arcos Dear all - thank you so much for the little words of support and encouragement and the ideas and suggestions as well. And AL - thanks for the continued info that I dn´t have time to post. Today´s walk was very pleasant and I felt I had gotten over the hump a little. I really needed the rest and this morning started off with a fresh body and mind and soul. Of course, God cooperated by providing cloud cover for most of the day so the temps didn´t soar during the walk. At least, there was more shade because of the clouds. I walked about 22k today. The first 8k was uphill to Villa Mayor de Monjardin but there was a little stop along the way for a free sip of wine at Bodegas Irache (they have two taps - one for water and one for wine!) :) After Monjardin, it was almost all downhill and lovely green fields with a wide path. The only problem was my blisters so I stopped along the way to wash my feet and change the band-aids, but apart from that, it was a good day and I got into Los Arcos around 2pm. I got away too late 7am so tomorrow I will really try to get off at 6am instead. I don´t know how to explain what is happening inside - it is different every day and I am sure I won´t really know myself what has happened to me until much later. All I know is the I fall more in love with God every day and want more and more to truly trust Him and let go of all my fears. That comment someone posted (sorry I can´t look back over past posts right now) about how Jesus had no place to lay his head and how He waited on His food from His Father - well that all seems so real to me as I walk along, wondering why it is that I don´t fit into this world anywhere. I belong to Him and that is all that matters now. Every moment is an opportunity to love and trust Him more. Scary sometimes, but letting go of that fear brings such comfort. Anyway, the words won´t make sense I suppose but I know how I feel. Thank you to all of you and prayers for you as I hope you pray for me. A pilgrim on the Camino. AnneLine
Projection for Nunsense's route today: She should be walking between Los Arcos and Viana. Here's a nice blog that discusses the area Nunsense travelled during the previous day.... http://www.caminomyway.com/on-the-camino-de-santiago-los-arcos-to-viana-spain Here is a second blog, a much more informal one. http://www.gregspurgin.com/walking-the-camino-de-santiago/2010/09/04/day-10-los-arcos-to-viana/ That blog also shows a good shot of a parish refugio (Albergue) in Viana, the pilgrim hostels that are the kind that Nunsense is staying in when she is not choosing to purchase a room in a private hostel. From what I have read, some are better than others. Some have beds, some not. Some are very primitive! pilgrim beds in the Viana Albergue Let us know a little of what you are finding, Nunsense. And what you are eating, if you desire. Any actual names of Churches and places you can provide will allow me to find better pictures. Godspeed! AccountDeleted
DAY 10 - IT WILL SEEM LIKE I AM SHOUTING BECUAES THIS COMPUTER HAS A BUSTED CAPS LOCK ON. SO JUST A WUICK UPDATE. WENT TO MASS LAST NIGHT AT SANTA MARIA IN LOS ARCOS AND RECEIVED A PILRIM´S BLESSING FROM THE PRIEST. STARTED EARLY THIS MORNING AND DID WELL - BLISTERS SOMEWHAT UNDER CONTROL BUT KNEES A BIT SORE NOW. GOT INTO VIANA AROUND 12.30PM BUT SPENT NEARLY AN HOUR TRYING TO FIND MY ALBERGUE (MUNICIPAL). THIS PLACE HAS THREE LEVEL BUNK BEDS BUT BEING ELDERLY :) I ASKED FOR A BOTTOM BUNK AND THEY GAVE IT TO ME. ALL OF THE ALBERGUES I HAVE STAYED AT HAVE HAD BUNK BEDS AND THEY PROVIDE A BOTTOM SHEET USUALLY AND A PILLOW. THE PRICE VARIES FROM 6 EUROS TO 9 EUROS USUALLY AND SOME ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS. I HAVE SOME PHOTOS POSTED ON PHOTOBUCKET UNDER THE USERNAME OF OZZIEANNIE AT http://s1346.photobucket.com/user/ozzieannie/library/?sort=2&page=1 I TRY TO ADD AS I CAN BUT NOT ALL COMPUTERS IN THE ALBERGUES HAVE CARD READERS FOR THE CAMERA. I HAVEN´T LABELLED THEM ALL BECUASE I HAVEN´T HAD TIME ONLINE FOR THAT BUT WILL TRY TO DO IT WHEN I CAN. MY BROTHER IS GOING TO SEND ME AN IPOD TOUCH TO BURGOS IF HE CAN, SO THEN I WILL HAVE MORE ONLINE ACCESS WHENEVER THERE IS WIFI AVAILABLED. FOR NOW I JUST HAVE TO USE THESE MACHINES THAT ARE PROVIDED. TODAY I HAD A BIT OF A MELTDOWN AT THE END OF THE DAY AND WHEN I WENT INTO A CHURCH TO PRAY, I GOT KICKED OUT AFTER A FEW MINUTES BECAUSE IT WAS THAT TIME OF DAY WHEN SPAIN SHUTS UP. IN THE SATE I WAS IN, I FELT AS IF GOD WERE KICKING ME OUT AND REJECTING ME. THE MELTDOWN PASSED, BUT IT IS AMAZING HOW EASY IT IS TO START DOUBTING WHEN THINGS AREN´T GOING WELL. I KEPT THINKING OF JESUS ON THE CROSS SAYING, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME, AND IT HELPED ME TO KNOW THAT HE UNDERSTANDS WHEN THINGS GET TOO MUCH FOR US TO BEAR. ANYWAY, MUST GO HAVE A SHOWER NOW. I AM STILL DIRTY FROM THE ROAD. THANKS FOR ALL THE GOOD WORK AL. LOVE AND PRAYERS FROM A PILGRIM

maximillion
TBH I hardly know what to say. I wish I had a quarter of your faith and just a wee tiny smidgin of your bravery Nunsense.... My prayers as you travel yet another unknown road without a clear notion of where you will be. I have been to St Iago. (Santiago) Keep it up, it is worth it when you get there and you realise the journey you have had. A big COLD hug!
OnlySunshine
Wow, what beautiful sites! I don't think I'd ever be able to do the Camino because of asthma and medical problems but I am envious of all the incredible places you are seeing! I would love to go to Europe someday. :) As for the spiritual problems, I am really sorry you are having such a trying time. I pray that this pilgrimage refreshes your soul and helps you clearly hear what God is asking of you.

AnneLine
Time for the next virtual update! Nunsense, when you read this, you will be at another place of rest. May the Lord give you refreshment and strength as you walk along with Him! It was wonderful to see actual photos from your walk, Nunsense, and to realize how closely we really have been following along. :) Quote from Nunsense: Day 10 IT WILL SEEM LIKE I AM SHOUTING BECUAES THIS COMPUTER HAS A BUSTED CAPS LOCK ON. One of the many hardships of the journey... we can survive it if you can! Quote from Nunsense: WENT TO MASS LAST NIGHT AT SANTA MARIA IN LOS ARCOS AND RECEIVED A PILRIM´S BLESSING FROM THE PRIEST. A very lovely 'retablo' of the Visitation from that Church. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Los_Arcos_-_Iglesia_Sta_Maria_-_Retablo_de_la_Visitacion_2.jpg Quotes from Nunsense are in blue caps: STARTED EARLY THIS MORNING AND DID WELL - BLISTERS SOMEWHAT UNDER CONTROL BUT KNEES A BIT SORE NOW. The two photos below are from the 'Albergue de peregrinos municipal Andres' Munoz'. It appears to be 'the' municipal Albergue in Viana, so likely this is where she was staying.... They offer washing areas, drying areas, a kitchen and a coffee maker. Basic, but that and a lower bunk sounds like enough at the end of a long day! Entrance door Dining area http://www.alojamientoscaminosantiago.com/detalle_alojamiento.php?ruta=2&localidad=35&ord=alf&id=502 Nunsense continues: I HAVE SOME PHOTOS POSTED ON PHOTOBUCKET UNDER THE USERNAME OF OZZIEANNIE AT http://s1346.photobu.../?sort=2&page=1 (Nunsense, you probably saw that ARFink, our resident art wizard, posted a few of your photos from the photobucket. He will probably do that from time to time; I may try my hand at it as well, but I'll be trying to find other photos to complement yours.....) Nunsense continues: I TRY TO ADD AS I CAN BUT NOT ALL COMPUTERS IN THE ALBERGUES HAVE CARD READERS FOR THE CAMERA. I HAVEN´T LABELLED THEM ALL BECUASE I HAVEN´T HAD TIME ONLINE FOR THAT BUT WILL TRY TO DO IT WHEN I CAN.
